30 August 2013
After the Holiday I am going to Focus on the Vehicle once again. Seems that the Idler-Arms on both sides have failed, and I had just replaced them earlier in the year. It would be unsafe to opperate the Vehicle with them in that condition.
20 August 2013
Lead is about the same weight as Silver, but it does not Conduct as well. Nickle is Lighter but still does not conduct like Silver. According to this information that I collected over the Internet, the Resistive Factor for Silver is 1.6, meaning most of the Current will travel through a ounce of Silver far better than that od Lead or Nickle. Even if Lead and Nickle were Combined, the Resistance and/or Conductivity would not be the same as Silver. I was unsuccessful at finding a Silver (Preciouse Metal) Testing Kit, and I will have to Order one On-Line.
Lead or Pewter does NOT read as Coins on the Metal-Detector. So what I have found is NOT Lead.
Lead Corrodes to a White Color. I have seen Many Civil War Bullets that are White when they are Retrieved.
Silver (Under Water) Turns to a Black.
The pieces that I had found are turning to the Black Color, Not white, or Green, or any-other colors.
To 'Clean' Silver, these are what you need:
1. Salt
2. Baking Soda
3. Vinegar
4. Aluminum Foil
5. Extreemly Hot Water
6. 5 minutes
Seen this Several times already on 'You-Tube'. So, in THEORY, If I do this to the Pieces that I Discovered, and they come Clean and shine like raw silver.
19 August 2013
Here are the Pictures of the 2 pieces of Silver that I found;
The 2.4 ounce piece.
The 0.8 ounces piece.
Both pieces for 3.0 ounces.
3.0 ounces is what the Scale had shown Regardless that it had shown the larger piece as 2.4 ounces and the smaller piece as 0.8 ounces. Roughly that's about $75.00 in total, and I only expect to see $37.00. That's why a amount of 10.0 ounces needs to be found to make it really worth it. I was invited to come back to the area to search more, though I think that these are the only 2 pieces, I will try again.
I am hoping with this New Understanding that I can find more Valuables. These pieces seem to be from someone attempting to Melt the Silver for whatever reason (Maybe it was Stolen, Maybe it was to keep it away from the Southern Army, Maybe it was supposed to go to the Southern Army), But they had been spilled on the ground becaue the Person(s) were possibly caught in the act of Meltinbg the Silver down, and they were possibly told to leave the property, Shot for Theft, Hung for Theft (Who knows?), but it was a sudden action that led to these pieces being lost to the ground.
To Determine that these 2 pieces were actually 'Silver', we did the following tests;
1-Ice (The Ice will Melt Fast and the Piece will get Cold Fast.)
2-Rare Earth Magnet (The Magnet will Barely Stick to the piece and fall off at the minimum of 45 degree angle.)
3-Voltage/Electrical Current (The piece should Not lose Conductivity any more that 0,05%)
I have yet to get the ACID to perform the 'Acid' Test, which will be deffinitive. It's $5.00 for a tiny bottle.
The 'OFFICIAL' Going price for 3 ounces of Pure Silver.
I have been trying to find Local Stores that sell Testing Kits for Precious Metals. They say to stay away from eBay when Purchasing such Kits because they are 'Fake Testing Kits'. I find Kits on-line for under $2.00 and up to $11.00. When I found these pieces, My 'Metal-Detector' kept Screaming when I passed over them in any direction.
Here is how the Conversation went when I showed everyone the First and Largest piece;
me: "Look what I found. What do you make of it?"
gf: "It's just a Rock."
me: "No rock this size is this heavy. There may be some small rocks in it, but this is not just a rock. Look at it." (Handing it to her)
gf: "It's just a Rock." (She hands it back)
me: "Here." (as I hand it to the Property owner)
po-01: "Looks like slag from a cutting torch."
me: "Then if that was the case, it would be a ball of Rust. Steel and Iron Rust. And it 'Screamed' when the metal-Detector went over it indicating that it was a 'Coin'."
po-01: "It is heavy for a rock." (bounces it in his hand) "Let me get something." (hands back the piece)
po-02: "Get an Ice-Cube." (after being on her computer)
me: "Why?"
po-02: "It says here that if it is Silver, the Ice-Cube will Melt quickly."
me: (I get upand go to retrieve an Ice-Cube)
Meanwhile-Outside
gf: (Places a Lighter under the 'Piece' to warm it up)
I return
me: (Placing Ice-Cube on now heated up 'Piece') "Look at it Melt!"
(Laughter from gf)
gf: "I placed my lighter under it and heated it up." (still laughing)
me: "How am I to determine if this is real Silver with you doing that?" (picking up piece, I notice it almost as cold as the Ice-Cube, and then hand it to gf) "Feel how cold it had gotten. Only something very conductive can do that."
gf: "It is cold, but that does not mean that it's Silver."
me: "Let's see how quickly it warms up then." (placing the 'Piece' on the Table, and moments later touching it) "See, it warmed up quickly. Let me try the Ice-Cube again." (placing the Ice-Cube on the 'Piece') "Look how fast that it's melting, and without the help of your lighter."
gf: "It's not Silver. It's just Metal. Alien Poop."
me: (scrape the piece on the concrete patio) "Look, it's shiny under the corrosion." (shows everyone and passes it around)
gf: "It's just metal." (hands it to me) "Alien Poop."
me: "Metal would Rust. This is just Corroded." (as I scrape it against the concrete patio again) "See, It's shiny underneath. Only Silver and Copper Corrode, and it's not Gold because Gold does not corrode. It's not a Golden color underneath. If this is 'Alien Poop, then I want to find this Alien and Squeeze all of the Poop out of it."
po-02: (after searching the Internet) "Let me get a Rare-Earth Magnet." (She goes into the house)
po-01: (after putting a battery in a Voltage Tesing device and testing it) "Here." ( as he places the Leads on either end of the 'Piece') "It did not lose any Conductivity."
me: "It didn't lose any conductivity. It's the same as when you tested the leads."
po-01: "That means it is very conductive. How much is Silver going for?"
po-02: "Let me check." (get s back on the computer)
me: "Is this really Silver? Feels weighty enough. It's very shiny under the Corrosion. It's Conductive. It melts Ice quickly. The 'Rare-Earth' Magnet did not stick to it. We did everything that we could to figure it out."
po-02: "Let's check it's weight. I have a scale indoors."
me: "Grams or Ounces?" (we go inside to discover that the First 'piece' is 2.4 ounces)
po-02: (we go back outside) "It's about Fifty Dollars." (after checking her computer)
po-01: "The Price of Silver is going up."
me: "Well, I'd better get back out there to see if there are any more pieces."
That's not Entirely Accurate, but it is within the Events of that day.
18 August 2013
I have found over 3 ounces of Silver this weekend. My first major find. I will be adding Pictures tonight and soon.
16 June 2013
I am planning a 'Laskey' Trip and soon.
27 May 2013
I did a little detecting this weekend and found an Old Hitching Ring and some other junk. My Detector is a P.O.S. because it gives false Signals of Silver and other preciouse metals, and when you dig it up, it's made from Iron.
23 May 2013
Today I get to Focus on a Specific Project, and to Actually Complete it.
I did not complete the project for today, but I know that one more day dedicated to it will do the trick.
22 May 2013
Was a great day at the Baseball Game with My Son. Though we got a little rain from time-to-time, I was prepared with an Umbrella, and we remained Dry.
21 May 2013
88 Degrees and Humid Today, and I have to turn the A/C on just to get rid of that Humidity. I did not want to turn it on until the middle of June.
20 May 2013
I will surely break the 500 mile a tank mark, without a doubt. I took my Automotive Tool-Box out of Storage once again and placed it in the back of the Vehicle so I am ready to resume the required work on the vehicle. I am also going to be doing some suspension work on my brother's vehicle so he can feel safer while driving. Goals: To install Sylenoid to Disenguage the Transmission when my foot is off of the accelerator. Change out the Throttle-Body to one from a Heavy-Duty Truck so the Computer can be Fooled. Besides some Sheet-Metal Work, that's the Extent of what needs to be completed. I do also want to get another Tire for the Vehicle.
After I get the Vehicle All straightened out I can start going to the 'Laskey' Site again. I will be taking a trip North as well.
19 May 2013
Well, Well. The Vehicle Travelled 450 Miles and still has Fuel in it, an Eighth of a Tank (or 50+ more miles). No Gas Stops. That makes the Fuel Mileage between 26 mpg and 30 mpg's. I am going to Drive the Vehicle until the Fuel Guage is barely Visable before filling the Fuel Tank back up. It may take 22 gallons rather than the 16 I thought that it had.
22.72 mpg if 22 gallons is what the Fuel Tank holds, or 31.25 mpg if 16 gallons is what the Fuel Tank holds. I will be filling the Tank soon enough to determine the Capacity.
As far as I knew, the Vehicles are all designed to go the Distance of 330 miles, and the Vehicle that I am driving is only supposed to get 20 mpg's and have a 15 gallon tank, and that makes the distance (20 mpg x 16 gallons) about 320 miles.
We are talking a 22 gallon fuel tank, so I must be getting 22.72 mpg's. I am not as excited as I was. I thought that ASTRO Vans had the 15 gallon fuel tank.
15 May 2013
Since the Plans of Yesterday did Not pan out, Today, they have to get done.
I was successful in getting what Needed to be done, Done. I was able to check the Fluids and Discovered that The Motor needed a Couple Quarts, The Transmission needed Half a Quart, The Power Steering was Bone Dry, the Back Brakes needed to be Topped Off, but the Radiator, and Front Brakes were fine. I added some Sealer and Conditioner to the Transmission and the Motor, and I added a Fuel Milage Increaser that Doubles as a Fuel Line Cleaner. I have given the Vehicle the Best Chance possible in making it the whole trip.
I will be Checking the Fluids again in the Morning because it will have all settled by then.
I have gotten the Surveillance System up and Running, and anyone who comes into My place will be Recorded, and their Image sent to Me, and then I will Mail that Image to the Police and have the Thief/Thieves Immediately Arrested, and I will Request that they keep thet Person, or those People in Jail for a Week and that I can go into their place of Residence and Collect anything that is Mine, and if it's not there, to Take a Replacement from their Residence. I have Pictures of Everything that I own on My Storage Device with their Respective Information so they can be Tracked that the Police can Follow. I am going to Catch this/These People now.
14 May 2013
After PLASMA, After taking the 'Girlfriend' to get her Hair Coloring, and After Finishing My Brothers Brakes on his Car, I can get to My Vehicle. I will only have 3 to 4 Hours to get everything done. I am thinking that maybe Wednesday would be a better day, but My Brother needs his Car as much, or even more that I need a Vehicle.
I finished My Brother's Car, with the help of two of his boys, but had no time to work on My Vehicle. I will just have to Entrust that things go well. I had to Rush, and thus forego what I had to do for My Vehicle. Tomorrow, there will be some running to do, and I highly doubt that I will have any time to do anything to the Vehicle.
13 May 2013
After getting myself something to eat, and instead of wearing shorts, I will put some work pants on, then I will go to My brother's and fix the Brake line, and then work on the addition of the 110v/12v outlets, Tweak the Alignment, and Recheck the Exhaust so the Vehicle will be Safe for the Long Trip.
I did not finish the 110v/12v set-up yet. I had to figure out how I was going to get everything in a tight little area. I did though. I need to Fabricate a couple things, but After that, it will be completed in a short period of time. I already have the Outdoors-Outlet in the Back Door. One can hardly notice it.
I need to determine what way this 'Heat-Sink' needs to go so it takes up the Least Amount of room inside the Panel. I have rearranged it to Fit, but it does just so, I need it to have room around it so the air can move around it. I may have to turn it 90 degrees to achieve that.
I could not finish My Brother's Car because I could not get the Wheels off to get at the Bleeders on the Brakes, and thus the Brakes are Spongy due to an Air Bubble in the Brake Line that I had Repaired. So, Tomorrow, I will have to take the Car to a Tire Place so they can Break the Lugs Free for Me. My Brother Broke his 4-Way trying to free the Lugs for Me. I Tried before he got home, but I knew when to stop. After the Tires are Free'd I can finish the job.
I was so Busy with the Other 2 things (Brakes and the 110v/12v) that I never took care of the Alignment or the Exhaust. I have to Ensure that the 110v System is Properly Grounded, and I am thinking that it need to be grounded to the Frame. Tomorrow I will quickly tackle the Alignment and Exhaust after I get My Brother's Car's Brakes Bled, then if I have the time, get back to the 110v System. The 12v Outlet will be installed at the same time, but I don't know where I am going to place it. It intrudes into the space Two and a Half inches and is an Inch in Diameter, so I need to be sure there is a suitable place for it.
12 May 2013
I have been making Great Amounts of Progress on Another Hobby. Tomorrow I have to fix My Brother's Brakes on his Car, and I will use that Oppertunity to get the 110v/12v connections installed, then I will take My Tool-Chest back to Storage until I need it again. Wich will not be long, because I have to finish My Son's Trailer.
Let Me be clear about My Brother's Brakes. I am Not changing the Shoes and/or Pads, or any 'moving' parts, I am however changing the part that allows the fluids to travel to the Calipers/Solenoids. I am changing the Brake Line that has a Hole in it, and it travels down the Drivers side of the vehicle. It may have a Connecting Nut between the front section and the back section, and that may make it easier, but then again, it may cause additional Broken Lines.
11 May 2013
I am going to work on my 'Home-Base' Computer this Morning, as I have a DVD Cover and a DVD Sleeve to Create and Print and some 3D drawings to Complete, then a few Spreadsheets to Update.
10 May 2013
Raining Currently, but it is supposed to Slow Down and Become Light Rain. I should have worked on it Earlier this week. I have 6 Days including this one to get it done.
09 May 2013
Tomorrow I will get the 110v/12v Connections Installed in the Vehicle. It is supposed to Rain, but today was supposed to as well, and it's 80 degrees and Partly Cloudy.
Having an Understanding as what I need to do to Install the 110v Convertor, and that I won't have to Reduce the Voltage from the Vehicles Battery, it should be Straight Forward Installation. Everything is Already Prepped, so All that I have to do is find Hard-Points for some of the Parts of the Equipment and Mount them. I am Not Changing any of the Wiring, maybe Extending a few to get them away from any potential future problems, but the Overall Design will remain as it was in the case.
08 May 2013
I was Concearned for a time about the Voltage to the Converter. I had the Impression that the Battery that was in the Converter Box was a 6v and that I would have to Reduce the Voltage from the Vehicle's Battery to make it work. Upon further Investigation, it is a 12v, and I can Safely Connect the Converter to the Vehicle's Battery. I have outlined where I want the Outlets and the Switch. I am Pondering if I want to add the Lights that Indicate what is going on with the Device or just leave them hidden. I still have them, and it would only require 2 more holes. I will decide upon that when I start the process of adding the Outlets and the Converter.
It looks as though it is supposed to Rain Most of the Weekend. Actually the Rain Starts Tonight/Tomorrow and lasts until Sunday Morning. I am still going to get the Power Converter and the 12v Connection done. It's My last chance to get this done and My tools into the Storage Facility.
07 May 2013
Today is PLASMA, then to do a little Grocery Shopping, then I can perform some Research.
06 May 2013
After getting the 110v/12v Outlets Installed, It will Free Up room in the back of the Vehicle. I have to Remind Myself what 'Other Things' that I have to do before the 'Trip', Like making the Steps up into the Vehicle Strong, and Safe. $50.00 will have to go for 'Fluids' for the Vehicle. It Needs Transmission Seal Sealer, Motorkote1000, Power-Steering Fluid, and a Couple Quarts of Oil. Being Prepared is Essential. I need to find a couple of those Moving Blankets.
I found my Extension Cord that I can Sacrafice for the Use in the Vehicle for the 110v Outlet that will be installed in the Passenger-Side Back Door, and I Pulled the Wires from Storage, as well as what I need to Change the Oil in the Vehicle. I am Ready and Prepared to get the 110v/12v Outlets installed and in a very short amount of time as possible.
05 May 2013
Another Beutiful Day in Store, but I have the Laundry to get done before I can pursue anything that I would want to.
Laundry: Done. I am Painting the Outdoor Electrical Cover, Black. I am awaiting for the Flat Black Paint to Dry, and I have another Hour to Wait, then I can put Sealer on it. Then I have to let that Dry for a Couple of Hours. I have Decided to place the Outdoor Outlet on the Passenger-Side Rear Door, Because if I go Camping, I want the Outlet on the Side of the Vehicle where I will be Spending most of My time, and that's the Side with the Sliding Door, where I will be getting In, and Getting Out of the Vehicle. I wish that the Liscence Plate Flipped Down, Because I would Hide the Outlet there, Behind the Plate. Also, it would keep it out of the Weather better.
I have to get a Cheap Extension Cord that will go from the Drivers Side, to the Passenger Side and Back Towards the Drivers Side to the Outlet. I wonder if a 6 foot one would work? The Color does not matter because No-One will even see it. Do I need the 'Box' that comes with it? I am thinking...No, because it will be Sealed, and Shielded from the Weather by the Door itself. I twould reduce the chance that the weight of the box to distort the sheet-metal. Of course I will still use the Gasket between the cover and the sheet-metal of the door. I know what I have to do, and I am sure that once I get going on it, I can have it Completed in a reasonable timeframe.
The Cover is Painted and Sealed, and is sitting in the Sun to Dry. The Black Color should help the Clear-Coat Dry. The wind/air should also help, as it caresses the Shape and Moves the Warm Surface created by the Black color, Releasing the Fumes into the Air, Furthering the Drying Process.
The Paint is Drying, but Not fast Enough for My Taste. I have to Wait until 1:30p before I can touch it, then it's going back in it's original Packaging for Safety until I am ready to Install it, which will be next week, or This Friday at the Earliest. By then, the Paint and Sealer will have more than enough time to Harden and become less susceptiable to just Cracking and falling off.
Again; 2 Red Wires and One Black Wire will come Directly from the Battery, and 1 Red Wire will come from the Fuse Box. They All 3, will travel within the Vehicle to the Drivers-Side Rear where the 2 Red Wires and the Black Wire from the Battery will Connect to the Converter, and the Remaining Red Wire will Connect to the 12v Connection, which will be connected/Grounded to the Body of the Vehicle. The Electrical Input for the 110v Converter will Remain, and will be Hidden and Not used yet. I will connect that to a Solar Panel in the Future (Possibly). The Project after this will be to get that Solenoid connected to the Brakes to Disengage the Transmission when I am coming to a stop. If that is Successful, then I will convert it to work off of the Throttle-Body when My Foot is off of the Gas Pedal it will then go into Neutral so the Vehicle can Coast until the time that I apply my foot to the Gas Pedal and Start Accelerating.
The Brakes on the Vehicle will need to be changed soon, they are beginning to Squeek. As long as they are done before this Winter I will be Happy. Thesem that are on there now, have been on there for 5 Years, and I am talking of the Front Pads.
I have No Intent of Cutting a Huge Hole in either the Plastic Interior Part or in the Sheet-Metal of the Back Doors. A Hole with the Dimensions of 2.75 inches by 1.375 inches will be large enough for the Outlets to come through, then the Cover Plates can be used. Speaking of which, I have to Modify and Clean up the Covers for the Interior. I can only repaint the Outlet Cover, but I have to Tape off the area where the Switches are going to be and paint the Edges of that one. I do Not want to Paint over the Words. So, I have to make sure that tonight, when I take the Newly painted Weatherproof Outlet Cover out with me, I take the Black Primer/Paint and the Sealer as well so I will have them when I get to that point.
04 May 2013
Today, I go back to the Parents and Finish the Fence, and then I can Work on getting the 110v/12v Ports installed so I can have Power at my disposal from the back of the Vehicle. I plan on putting an Outlet on the Outside of the Back Door so I don't need to open the Back door to have Power.
Sometimes I think that I should make a Dedicated page for My Vehicle, because there is so much that I do to it.
I did what I could to the Fence, but did Not get a chance to work on the Vehicle as I hoped that I would. I have to find 3 power-points from the Fuse Box, 2 need to be for the Voltage Converter, and One for the 12v Jack.
I am going to Run the Power for the 110v Converter from the Battery to the Back. Do I need to Run the Negative all the way back as well? I think that it would be the 'Smart' thing to do, for Safety. So, I will have to go back to the Storage Facility and get the Black Wire. I will have to use 'Wire-Nuts' as well, and then Tape them off for Safety. I will 'Hard-Wire' the Converter as another Safety Precaution. I am going to Paint the Outside of the Outdoor Outlet Cover Black Tomorrow, and then it will have more than enough time to dry, and I can put a Sealer Coat on it as well.
03 May 2013
Chilly Friday Morning. I have a Lot on my plate today, and it looks like it's going to Bleed through the whole weekend.
I was able to get Most things done today. I am Very happy with the Steering, because it responds so well now. The Good Tires on the Front make for better handling and Stopping. The Tire that I am now using as a Spair has a Broken Belt, and if I have a Flat, it will end up on the Passenger-Rear, and the Tire there will Replace the Flat Tire. There is no longer any Wind coming in between the Front Fenders and Doors. I have to work on Finishing the Addition of the 110v/12v Ports on the Inside-Drivers Side Rear. I have the Electrical Components readied. I will have only One more weekend to get everything done.
02 May 2013
After I get back fron the 'Trip', I am going to use some of the PLASMA Money to get Myself a 'Pin-Pointer' and make the Modifications to it so it will be more dependable.
This weekend is being used up already! I have One task after another that needs to be Completed.
01 May 2013
I am Focusing on the Vehicle and getting that Fixed up before persuing any Hobbies. But I will be getting out very Soon.
30 April 2013
Nothing to see here...Move on.
29 April 2013
I have been Busy Focusing on My Series of SciFi Books and have been neglecting any research in this area. I don't see myself doing any anytime soon.
28 April 2013
The Vehicle sounds so much better. I have addressed the Wind Noise between the front fenders and the doors, and the Exhaust is Very Tollerable.
27 April 2013
So Yesterday I was Able to Fix the Exhaust, and I believe for the Final time this Year. I will have to get another Exhaust Manifold and more than likely a New Cross-Over, and if that happens, I might as well do the whole exhaust all the way out the back. I Cut the Exhaust Tip and Raised it up high enough so it will not catch a Curb whenever I parallel park. I Also Adjusted the Front Fenders so the Air does not go between the Front Fenders and the Doors. It was Easier then I had previously thought. All I had to do was loosen one Bolt, then Pry the Fender until it come out far enough to match the door, then retighten the Bolt. Now I have to get the Tire that I have in the Back of the Vehicle Mounted onto the Rim and Balanced, then Recheck the Alignment. After that, I believe that the Vehicle will be ready for Long Trips. I believe that it will cost another $45.00 for that.
26 April 2013
Today was Successful. I have been able to Adjust the Front Fenders so they are Flush with the Doors, and now no wind will get between the front fenders and the doors. I Also fixed the Exhaust at the Manifold
24 April 2013
Well, the Weather Channel LIED! It is still raining! So, No, I will Not be going out. Unfortunately.
So, I go to the Library today and as I was Paralell Parking, My Exhaust hits the Curb, and Breaks it Further. Now it is Extreemly Noisy. I will have a lot of Welding to do, as well as Drilling and possibly Retapping for new Bolts. It Never Ends. I will ensure that the Exhaust Tip is Above the 6 inch Mark so this does not, ever happen again. The Sun is out currently, and the Radar shows No Rain Tomorrow, even though the Weather Channel say that we will have Rain Tomorrow.
23 April 2013
So...Tomorrow, I am going to Metal-Detect After My Son has gone to School, and I will be able to stay there for 7 hours, from 8:30am to 3:30pm. I will have to bring a Lunch and drink. I am going to the Mill Site on the East Side of Lansing, Near a Baseball Park.
Now it's to be 48 degrees on Wednesday. It was to be in the 60's. 61 degrees Friday and 66 degrees on Saturday. Let's see if that holds true or not. Friday, I will be getting the Tire Changed, and then Saturday, I will be working on the Fenders and the Alignment once again. Hopefully, I will be able to Incorporate the 110v outlets and the 12v outlet in the back of the Vehicle.
22 April 2013
Today, Would be a great day to Persue this Hobby/Research Outdoors. It's only 35 degrees currently, but is to get to 63 degrees and remain Sunny. I need to Invest in getting the Tire Mounted on the Rim and then putting the Effort in the Alignment and fixing the Fender issue. Could be as simple as adding a couple of washers at the Bottom Bolt on Each Fender.
Wednesday looks good for Working on the Vehicle, but Friday looks the best. I have to get this work done for the Safety of My passengers and make the Vehicle more Dependable.
I am Suprised! My 'Girlfriend' asked why I was not out doing this Hobby, and why I did not do it when she was gone for a week. Well, that week that she was gone it was Cold, Raining or Snowing. Maybe she will like to go out with me on Wednesday?
"Conductive Sounds" Setting...Seems to work for a few people.
So, Wednesday's Weather keeps changing. It will still be a Sunny Day, but now they are saying that it will get to 51 degrees, and at noon they said it was only going to get to 47 degrees. I hope that it will turn out very similar to todays weather. I want to go to the Old Mill Site and do some seriouse searching there before the construction begins.
21 April 2013
I have been reading books this weekend and taking down information. It did not relate to this subject, but I needed the Information for my project.
I am getting Closer to having the Vehicle ready for this summer. I have a Tire to get Mounted, then after a couple days, to Re-Do the Alignment the Final time. Why Again? Because with Better Tires on the Front, I will get a better result, and thus be able to save on more fuel. I still have to Realign the Fenders to reduce the Drag.
18 April 2013
A Half-Day for My Son today. It's currently 55 degrees and Cold, with Gusts of wind. I am anticipating a good weekend so I can once again get some work done on the Vehicle, like once again Fixing the Exhaust (Perminately) and getting to the Fenders and Turning the Passenger Alignment to more of a 'Toe-In' Stance. It's pulling to the right a bit. I Also have to get the Tire in the Back Mounted on the Rim that currently is holding the Bald Tire. That will be $30.00+ to get that done. I will have 4 Good tires for the trip. The tire that's on the Drivers-Side Front was one that I had last Year when we took the same trip, and then it was going Flat. Currently it is Holding Air Pressure.
I have to Remove the Tool-Box from the Vehicle and put it back into Storsge until the trip is over.
Vehicle To-Do List:
1-Alignment Tweaks.
2-Fix Exhaust (Perminately).
3-Tire Mounted/Balanced.
4-Adjust Front Fenders.
5-Check Fluids. (Add Fuel Cleaner, Flush Radiator)
17 April 2013
We have a Sunny Day that is supposed to get warm. Still...I cannot go anywhere. No Finances to go places. Have a Trip to Consider.
16 April 2013
Another Dark and Gloomy Day. I have to go do My Tuesday thing, but there have no real new development in this field where I can add information.
The Sun did finally show itself, and it got to almost 60 degrees, which I was enjoying. I still have a few things to do for the Vehicle before leaving to New York.
15 April 2013
Rainy and 66 degrees today. I have turned off the Heat in the House and plan on opening some windows when the Temprature reaches 55 degrees.
14 April 2013
I have been working on a different project. The weather has been less that cooperative this last week, and I am hoping for better weather.
The weekly weather is supposed to be rain. It did Snow earlier. So far, Next week from the 19th to the 24th is supposed to be nice and dry.
13 April 2013
Nothing to see here. Move on.
12 April 2013
Weather is still uncooperative and I am feeling Ill. Sinuses, I think.
11 April 2013
So, the Weather has turned nasty up North. So, No quick trips this weekend.
10 April 2013
The Weather is the same as Yesterday.
09 April 2013
Cold, Cold, Rain. Friday is still on for James and Myself, but I will not be spending a lot of time there.
08 April 2013
Today, I made a Cover to Protect My Meyal-Detector. It's Yellow so I can find it Quickly. It will keep it safe from rain and Dirt. I have to get a Pin-Pointer at a later time.
07 April 2013
I did get the Tires Aligned and the Exhaust Fixed (for Now) and did some of the Grocery Shopping. I have a few more items to get yet for the week. I am going to do that tomorrow after Stephen is off to School. I believe that I have Over-Corrected the Alignment by a Smidge, but it's something that I can easily take care of.
05 April 2013
'HAPPY FIRST-CONTACT DAY!' Now that is out of the way, It's a Cold 45 degrees outside, despite the Bright Circle thing in the Sky. I instead helped my Parents with a couple chores before returning home. It's even Cold in here. I had the Heat off and a Window opened because I thought it was going to be at least decent outdoors. So I turned the Heat back on. I am Instead going to work on things around here. Tomorrow, I will do the Laundry (I hope). I am waiting for the State Aid money to come in. I got a Pin-Pointer and the parts to Modify it, and I am readying myself to get to the task.
The 'Pin-Pointer' is Completed. Works very well. Total Cost = $25.68. It can hold it's own with the Big Companies.
04 April 2013
Friday and Sunday look like great days for this Hobby.
So, Friday, I will get the Alignment done on the Vehicle, and maybe the Fenders straightened out, Plus I have to Fix the Exhaust again. The Fasteners came free once again. This is going to be an all day thing. Then I can make the best of Sunday at the 'Laskey' Site.
I want to take a lot of Pictures of the Anomalies, Bridges, and Old Foundations for future reference when going out there.
02 April 2013
I guess that 'April Fools' was Extended to this Morning. There was Snow on the ground. I did the PLASMA thing already, so Now I can spend the day with My Son.
01 April 2013 'APRIL FOOLS DAY'
The Meanest April Fools Day Trick is Having Money...To go and Pay Bills with.
We are Free of some of the Bills for Another Month. I still have 3 Bills to pay before the end of the Month.
After getting the Vehicle straightened around, than I can start going out on a regular basis and using the Metal-Detector.
31 March 2013
Yesterday I was able to get most everything completed. What I did not get Completed was making the Fenders so they were beyond the doors to keep air from getting between them, and I Did not get the chance to Properly Align the Steering.
By the way, HAPPY EASTER!
Having the Fenders beyond the Doors will stop the wind from going between the Door and Fender, and Increase the Fuel Mileage as well.
Correcting the Fender Problem, Aligning the Steering, and Installing the Electrical 110v/12v Service into the van will be My Goals for the 2nd week of April. I am Tempted to add an Outdoor Outlet on the Back Door on the Drivers Side of the Vehicle. It will be Switched from the Inside so no-one will be able to just turn it on and drain my battery. This will give me Added time in the field to do Camping and/or Research.
I am Always 'Thinking' of new ways to better improve the Surroundings that I am in. I need to get some 1" Plywood, Tent Material, and a few other things so the Van could easily be converted to Camping situations. I don't have the Finances to do it in the manner that I really want to, and that is making the Tarp cover the top of the Van where a couple people can climb up into and sleep there. I just want to make it where the Additional square footage folds out of the back, between the doors, and then up to make the top of the 'Tent'. I have a 'Vision' on how it is to operate. And I don't want it to be Complicated. I just want to open the back doors, Unfold the Tent area and Lock it down. And it should be just as easily folded and stored when ready to leave.
I will have to visit the Storage again to get some of the material for adding Outlets from my electrical tool-box. I have an Outdoor Outlet and Box there that I can use. I had a thought, an Solar Panel that will unfold with the Top of the Sleeping area that will help keep the Vehicles Battery Charged. That will keep me from burning fuel to keep the electrical up and running. The 'Tent' Area will have to be Small and Light Enough so it is removable. To save Energy, I can use a String of White LED Christmas Lights to light up the Inside of the Vehicle. I will have to make some Covers for the Side windows, and the Rear Windows, and I have to make a Divider between the Front Seats and the Back/Sleeping area. A thin Tent Material for the Perminant Top would be the first thing, and a Secondary Layer of a Heavier Canvas Material would be used for colder nights. Of course it will be removable in the event that it goes from 15 degrees to 80 degrees and then back to 15 degrees. Maybe 2 layers of Plastic tarp? Maybe to make it easier, I will have the second layer so it folds down the back so it's easily accessible in the event that it is needed. It will be Stored away when Travelling, of course.
30 March 2013
The Weather Today:
Keeping in mind that it's at 3:00pm whan it will reach that goal, and it's 29 degrees now, at 9:00am, so, Split the Difference by 6 hours and that makes the temperature rise to (28 divided by 6) 4.65 degrees (Roughly) per Hour. And it will reach 40+ degrees by Noon (Or 11:30am). That's when I am going to the place where I can do the work and getting it done Today.
29 March 2013
Well, it's 47 degrees outside at 1:55pm. Did not get the oppertunity to work on the vehicle, but will tomorrow. It Must be done. I will not have any time next week to do anything, for My Son has 'Spring-Break'.
28 March 2013
Today will be no time for this Site. My Son is to have Oral Surgery.
I am awaiting the Ground to Thaw and the weather to remain warm.
27 March 2013
I will soon be on My way to the Auto-Salvage Yard. It's a Sunny 30 degrees and getting warmer. Hopefully the 2 Vans with their Motors pulled out last year are still there so I can get at the parts quicker and get this over with. My problem will be getting the right tools the first time out.
Within the last Hour, the temp has risen a degree, and that is great, and needs to make more of an effort and do 2 degrees per hour.
All Parts Obtained. Was Not Exactly Easy. Had the 48oz Hammer (The Big One) Drop on my Right Hand. Numbed it for quite a while. The Drag-Link proved to be the most Difficult to remove. Though the Bearings for the Sliding Door were a Challenge. The Idler-Arm was by far the Easiest to get at and remove. For $30.00 I got those 3 things and a Great looking Tire. If I were to buy the Parts New (Including the Tire), the Cost would have been $110.00. Now If I had it all done in a shop, it Would have been an Easy $600.00. Now you know why I prefer to do everything Myself.
I did get Rather Wet and Dirty, having to lay down in the Thawing Snow and the Water running off of the Vehicles around Me. Getting the Donor Van to where I could work on it was Time Consuming, I mean a Challenge. At first I could Not find anything to Prop the First Side up. I Finally Found a Donut (Spare Tire) and that was not enough, so I searched, and searched until I found another. After getting Some Height, I place them under the frame so I could get at a better spot to raise the Van Higher, then I placed both of the Spare Tires Upright and lowered the jack. I had to do that a few times until I knew that I would be Safe, and the Van would Not Fall on Me. Then I could Start unfastening the parts. Some of the Nuts were difficult to get free, and I had to work on them almost until they were almost all of the way off. Then came using the 'Pickle-Fork' to Seperate the parts. In One situation with the 'Drag-Link', I did Not have any Angle to get at it. I used anoither Tool, and it was a Mild Success, Meaning a Failure. I had to Raise the Other side of the Van so I could Turn the wheels and get at the Bolt, and the Van Almost Fell, So I had to Re-set the First Side on those Tires, and then the Jack so it would Not Move.
Well, it has reached 46 degrees. It has less than an hour to get one more degree warmer.
On Friday, the 29th, I will be putting the parts that I got today on the Vehicle. It is supposed to be 47 degrees,v one more than it is Now. I can then Start addressing the Addition of the 12v/110v power outlets. I will have to make sure that I bring My 'Dremel' Tool. A List of things that I have to Achieve Friday.
1.Replace Idler-Arm.
2.Replace Drag-Link.
3.Replace Sliding Door Bearing.
4.Adjust Fenders on Front. (Outwards)
5.Get Tire Mounted on Rim and get Other Tire Fixed.
6.Find Exhaust Leak and Fix.
That should be enough for the day. I have to keep in mind that I will be Removing 3 parts before replacing them.
26 March 2013
Not much time for this today. We will see.
I will have to Remember to Tape the first 2 to 3 inches of Cable/Wire Above the Coil. This will keep it Still and from Interferring with any Signals.
Looking like a good week to get started on fixing of the Vehicle. Tomorrow is supposed to have Sun along with the Current Temp of today. I will not be able to do anything at all Thursday, but Friday, or Saturday, I will be able to Finish up the Vehicle.
It will be nice to have the 24mpg's again, and if I am right, it will be 25mpg's after fixing the Front Fenders situation. After getting 2 Better Tires, I will get the TBI from an Heavy-Duty Chevrolet Pick-Up, or Van, and Replace Mine with that, fooling the Computer in thinking it's Pushing a Heavier Load than it is, and thus making for better response and Fuel savings. I should be getting 28mpg's to possibly 30mpg's then. Then I have to Focus on the Solenoid to Disenguage the Transmission at Stops, then I can take that further by placing a switch at the TBI that will tell the Solenoid that My foot is off the accelerator and that it can go into Neutral.
The Rain has Started, and that's better than the Snow that was Predicted.
25 March 2013
Been researching the 'Tree-Peeker' a lot as of late. I also have been preparing My Son for his Oral Surgery this week.
Well, the Snow is not done with us.
23 March 2013
Ohio seems to be a 'Hot-Spot' back in 2012. I wonder if it's due to Lake Huron and the Bend into Michigan. I wonder if Detroit can be a reason for the lack of 'Tree-Peekers' in Michigan.
I have to do this Again. I cannot find it Anywhere else right now, So I will Re-Do it here. It is after a lot of research that I came up with a way to extend my video-recording battery life. I Researched a way to Convert the Power from 6volts to 3.6volts so it can be used on/with the video-camera. Here is the Diagram;
This should give me an added 80 minutes to my recording, on top of the 40 minutes for a combined recording time of 120 minutes (2 hours). I have to get a small part from 'Radio Shack' that connects the 6volt battery to the Camera. I will also have to get the Resistors from there as well.
The 'GLOSTER' was Never Documented by Either the British Insurance Agency or by the Newly Founded United States, and the Roster has Never been found, but it Ties into the History of 'Dogtown' of Cape Ann, Massachusets, on the East Coast. Another Town/Village that had only lived for a short period.
I am awaiting to hear if the Town of 'Laskey, Michigan' will be Mentioned. More than likely it will not.
I have 2 6v Batteries that are Rechargeable, and all together should give me 200 minutes recording time, or 3 hours and 20 minutes. I just have to make a way to Secure it to a Tri-Pod.
22 March 2013
I had forgotten about a couple Shoulder Straps that I had from Old Video-Cameras. I can apply them to This Hobby. The larger one can be used to support the Metal-Detector over the shoulder.
The Top Strap would be used as Support with the 'Metal-Detector'. I will have to add a couple connection points for the clips. The Second Strap (Bottom) I will have to find a use for it.
21 March 2013
No time for Anything today. I am expecting my Son at Noon because he has a half Day of School, then After Lunch, He has a Doctors Appointment for a Physical so He can have his Oral Surgery in a week.
An 1870 'Seated Liberty' Coin found in 2012 goes for $20,000.00.
I wonder how much an 1882 Silver Morgan Dollar can go for?
How can anyone be 'Disgusted' by finding an old Coin? Primarily a "Mercury" Dime? Well, this guy did, even as so far making the sound of Disgust. 'TheSilverFeind' is what he goes by, and the 'YouTube' Episode he does this is called "Best metal detecting hint of my life!!". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcR9_b4vvx4
19 March 2013
Today Sucks. Stephen 'Tablet' Device has been Dropped, Not only Once, But Twice, Squaring Two Corners and Making the Screen where it does not function properly. I Either have to get a New Screen or another 'Tablet' Device so I can continue with the Success that I was Having with Stephen. So, All Hobbies are on Hold, and as well as the trip to New-York.
18 March 2013
I have the Address and Contact information to see if a Permit is needed for Camping at the 'Laskey' Site.
17 March 2013
I have Circled areas (Picture Below) where I want to Investigate and take pictures of in the 'Laskey' Site before going to do anything. I am going to take my Bicycle so I can cover a lot of ground and get as many pictures as I can.
It's 7 miles by 4 miles area that I need to Research and get Pictures of. I am very interested in the Old Dams and Bridges and other Anomalies.
I'd better get a Schedule arranged for My Expeditions. Starting on the 7th of April, and Ending on the 12th.
7th - 'Laskey' Site. Document (Take Pictures) of Bridges and Anomalies.
8th - 'Laskey' Site. Document (Take Pictures) of Foundations of 'Laskey'
9th - 'Laskey' Site. Metal Detect Town of 'Laskey'
10th - 'Laskey' Site. Metal Detect Other Communities around Game Park
11th - 'Laskey' Site. Metal Detect Other House Foundations around Game Area
12th - Go get James Bromley to Metal Detect 'Laskey' Site
There is a 'Rough Draft' of what I am going to try and Attempt within a Week.
It's a 50 mile Drive to 'Laskey', one-Way. After getting the Vehicle Fixed, it should only take 4 gallons of Fuel Round Trip, per Day.
15 March 2013
It is Surely Cold outside. It's Grey but without wind. There will not be any Automotive Work going on today.
14 March 2013
I am so Anticipating getting the Steering Completed on the Vehicle. Starting Tomorrow! At least I will not have to go and get the Automotive Tool Box out of Storage. Yes, I NEED ALL of the Tools! You never know when there will be a Metric Bolt where a SAE Bolt is supposed to be. And I need My Breaker Bar/Force Multiplier, as well as any other tools that will make my job easier and the process go as fast as possible.
This Weekend I am going to Finish the Repairs to the Vehicle's Steering. Then I will have My 24mpg Mileage back, and then I can Press for 25mpg and over by a few more modifications. After this Step, it's the Throttle-Body that will be Replaced, and in doing that the Vehicle should Increase 3 to 5 mpg. Then after that, it will be the addition of a Solenoid on the Transmission to Dissengauge the Transmission whenever the brakes are used, adding another 1 to 3 mpg's. So, All-in-All the Vehicle should at least increase Gas Mileage by 4 to 8 mpg's for a total of 28mpg to 32mpg. There is a possibility of 448 Miles per Tank to 512 Miles per Tank. 384 Miles per Tank is what I will have after getting the Steering done, which is just under the total mileage for the trip.
This Weekend has Tanked! Fridays Temp dropped 10 degrees! Now it's going to be 40 degrees Tomorrow with Rain then Snow! Ugh! I wanted so to get the Vehicle's Steering all Fixed!
So there is a Pattern here with the Weather, and that is whatever the Weather Channel says, Minus it by 4 degrees minimum and 8 degrees maximum, and that's what the weather will be in 4 days.
13 March 2013
Today is a New Day.
This is the Revised Week of Weather for March. Friday still looks good.
Next Week is supposed to shape up like this;
And of course My Son has a Half-Day on Thursday (21st). Friday is still open though. It will be Cold this weekend, but I still have work on the Vehicle to do. To get the Rear Transmission Seal, the Idler Arm and the Drag Link replaced. Seems one cannot get the Rear Transmission Seal Seperate. You have to buy a whole 'Kit'. I will have to snatch one from the Scrap Auto Parts Yard.
I am starting to feel the 'Panic', even though I know that I have over a Month before the New-York Trip. I want to get everything done on the Vehicle and to Start saving Money.
12 March 2013
Busy day for Me today. Had to do the PLASMA thing, then the Shopping, and Finally to the Library and to get some Freezer Bags to Store the Just Purchased Meats.
I am going to use the 'Mill Site' as a Practice place. I am going to Focus around the Foundation and the River Bank still. The weather is getting warmer, and My Van is getting better on Fuel, so I can Visit the Site and More Sites.
11 March 2013
Deffinately Raining Today. 49 Degrees. Would not be bad for getting out, but I have to make a Cover for the Electronics of the Metal-Detector.
As you can see, Thursday's Forecast has changed a bit, but Friday looks great, and Maybe I can get the last 2 parts for the steering and replace them this weekend and get back to having 24mpg's. I have to check the Prices of the Idler Arm and the Drag Link for My Van.
Drag Link = New $31.00 (Long Bar)
Idler Arm = New $57.00
At the Parts Reclimation Yard, I should be able to get both for around $20.00 and have them Installed quickly. Afterwards, I will have to perform an Alignment and then Tweak the Steering.
$400.00 to $700.00 for the Complete Air-Bag Kit. Maybe I am looking at it all wrong...Maybe I need to add some Self Retracting Skirting. Something that Activates at 50 Miles Per Hour to Divert the Air from going under the Van. But having the Ability to be Lowered when at 50mph, or when the Vehicle is in Park so people can get in and out easier would be more of a benefit.
I am going to use a Yellow, water-proof material for my metal-detector cover.
I am also going to Add a 12v Jack for Automotive Accessories in the Back of the Van, Near where I am adding the 110v Outlets. (As Described Yesterday)
I have been watching 'YouTube' for any Hunts for this year, and I found None for Michigan.
10 March 2013
I am not saying that I will Never find any in Michigan, but as for Civil War Era Bullets...I Highly doubt that I will get any Here (in Michigan). I have to Focus on finding 'Stashes', 'Caches', and other Hidden Treasures by People trying to keep their Lifes Savings away from the Banks, and their Greedy Family.
I HATE it when People Beg for Money to Support their Metal-Detecting Hobby. "Please Donate to Further My Metal-Detecting Adventures". That's Bull-Crap! It's a Hobby! No-One should be 'Funding' your Hobby!
I Should have Modified My Shovel while I was at My Parents. I still can, and it will be soon. When I go there to Repair the Remaining Steering Components I will make the Modifications to the Shovel. I plan on making a 'Laskey' Trip after April 6th. This Month I am Focusing on the Repairs to the Vehicle, for Safety Reasons and for Gas Mileage. If I get the Vehicle to 25mpg, then I can make a trip to New-York on One Tank of Fuel.
Just learned that 'War Nickles' can have an 'S' on the back on the Top or the 'P' as commonly known.
I had to Update the FAQ area about the 'War Nickles'.
Modifying the 'Cen-Tec' Pinpointer # 97245 ($16.00) Parts List
- Replacement Button/Switch; Push-On/Push-Off Switch-Part # SPST $3.00 to $4.00
- Vibrator; Part # 273-0107 $3.00 to $4.00 (3v DC Motor)
- 1/2" PVC Piping (Used as Sleve to Strengthen the Shaft)
- 1/2" Thin Rubber 'Boot' to Cover Tip of Modified Shaft
Relocate the Sensitivity Dial to the Top of the Unit. Patch All Holes with Cilicone or Resin. Seal LED Light to Restrict Moisture/Water to Inside. Test to see if a Coin or Metal Slug placed near the Base of the Shaft will Increase Sensitivity.
I have to check for an Inners 'Pentometer' (Sensitivity Control). I am going to be Wiring in a Voltage Regulator into the Vehicle's Left Rear Interior Panel where I can Plug in Household items while I am Camping or Otherwise.
The Face of the Unit
Looking down from the Top (Top Cover Removed)
Looking at the Front Interior (Top Cover Removed)
I have to Fit all of this, from the Inside of this to the Inside of a 6" by 14" Space, and I will have to take in Consideration the Interior space of the Vehicle. I don't want to lose any Interior Space, so I have to Fit it within the Limited Space. I can get rid of anything related to 110volts going into the Box. All I need are the Wiring and Components that go from 12volt source to Convert to 110volts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ-Vub0D1IA Best Cen-tech mod on youtube!!! This Guy has figured out how to make a Wand for the 'Cen-Tec' Pinpointer as the Other Guy could not.
The Areas outlined in Red are what is going to be Exposed inside the Vehicle. I may leave some of the Metal around the Outlets to Support/Brace them. The Indicator Light and Switch will be Mounted as Close Together as possible, and up and out of the way. Maybe within the Storage area above the Outlets that way they will be Protected further from the Elements and from Accidently being Turned on and left On (Draining the Battery). Well, the Light should be Exposed, but Not the Switch. I need to make a Cover for My Metal-Detector so the Rain does Not Destroy it. I have what I need. I can Re-Apply one of the Water-proof Grocery Bags for a Water-Proof Case, and I have a Clear Shower-Curtain in Storage that I can use for the Face part.
I have Three Weeks to Finish up with the Steering Components. That seems Reasonable. Now, Will the Finances work on My Side? I am sure that they will.
09 March 2013
Today I become Less Stressed about Driving the Vehicle. I will be Replacing the Bearings on the Front of it. Next is the Parts for the Steering that are bad and had Failed over the Winter.
Two less things to Worry about with the Vehicle. I changed the Bearings on Both Sides of the Front and Rotated the Front Brake Parts, and Also Fixed the Exhaust. There are No More Grinding Noises coming from the Front. But My Task does not end there because I still have to Replace the 'Drag Link' and the 'Idler Arm', Plus get the Spare Tire checked out, and Another Tire in better Condition. I have to get a Rear Transmission Seal, and a Roller for the Sliding Door. The one that goes down the Side of the Van. A Solenoid to make the Transmission go into Neutral when coming to a Stop or when I am off of the Gas Pedal and just Coasting. These are Realistic Goals for this year in getting the Mileage up. I have to eventually get Air-Bags so the Van will Drop 4 to 6 inches when the Van gets to 50 Miles Per Hour. All together it should Increase the Mileage near 30 Miles per Gallon. At 24mpg I will get to 384 Miles per Tank. Now, if I get to 30mpg I will get to 480 Miles per Tank. That's with the 15 to 16 Gallon Fuel Tank, and if I was to get a 20 to 22 gallon Tank, I would be able to travel 660 Miles total. I need to Re-Do the Alignment then Tweek it for Additional Fuel Mileage. My Steering Wheel is Off-Kilter and I will have to Address that when performing the Alignment. My Current List of things needed for the Van before any Long Trips;
1. 2 Tires (Used)
2. Solenoid
3. Sliding Door Bearing
4. Drag Link (Steering)
5. Idler Arm (Steering)
6. Rear Transmission Seal
I am trying to Remember what else that I need to do to the Van. Like Wiring in a Voltage Converter in the Back to Power Household (110 volt) Items for when I am out in the Field. Also, to Finally Install the Stereo and DVD Player.
Having the 'Switch' on or connected to the Throtle Body Linkage will be pretty easy, but as for the Transmission, I will need to get some Spring, Strong Enough to offset the Linkage from the Transmission to the Shifter. Either way, I will have to apply a Spring between the Shifter to the Transmission that will allow the Transmission to become Dissengaged without damaging the Linkage between the Transmission and the Shifter. So I will be Grabbing extra parts while at the Parts Reclimation place.
07 March 2013
I wonder if the Site that I looked at last could have been an Old Mill. It's right on the River, and a Road used to run right by it. The Old Road was shown as Dashed on the 1850's Map, and that usually meant it was a Secondary, or a Two-Track Road. The area was still Forested at the time.
I need a Marble Slab to Test coins with. They used to use them on the Earlier Cash Registers. Not that I could not tell by looking at the Edge, But there were Fake Coins (Counterfeiting) back then, and I may run accross one of them in My Digs. The Counterfeit Coin may be worth more than the Original.
Tomorrow, I go get the Parts from the Reclamation Yard to Repair the Vehicle.
It was Forty Degrees for a Minute! Then it Started Dropping again, and Fast, because it's 35 degrees right now!

Todays Lesson;
How to Modify, or Not Modify your 'Cen-Tec' Pinpointer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_Ny4kdLDS0 How to make your cen-tech pinpointer like the big boys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=3JW9g_ET7tE&NR=1 How to NOT modify your cen tech pinpointer into a corded probe
I like the way he thinks, but he has poor execution to get the results that he wanted. I will make it work though, and i will be doing 2 of them. I am also going to Modify the Circuit Board and get/make a new housing for them so the Handle area is easier to hold.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRBqRppYaxY Cen-Tech Pinpointer Mod
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uyrx3pj6o1c Cen-Tech model-97245 Metal detector pinpointer
This last one seems like it's over the Top because he Uses a Larger Box, He uses the LED for an 'ON' indicator than what it was meant for, and that is a Light to see in the Holes. Then He Modify's it even more, Losing a couple Qualities, and he puts in a 'Toggle Switch' to go from Vibrating to LED Indicator, and He has Lost all Sound Indications. He's going to be Blinding Himself when using it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5seiLHyNbjw How to Make a Cen-Tech Hand Held Metal Detector a Better Pinpointer
The 'Switch' is the Weak Link to the Pinpointer. Change that Immediately. Great Tutorial, but Sucky Switch Selection.
With these Modifications, and a Couple of My own, I should be able to Improve the Usefulness of the $20.00 'Pinpointer'. So Under $30.00 I can make a 'Better' 'Pinpointer' for James and Myself. They will be Stronger and be more useful. I will have to create a Video of My Re-Work of Both of the 'Pinpointers'.
05 March 2013
Today is Near 40 degrees, and Friday is to be 41 degrees, and next week is supposed to be in the 40's. Looking Forwards to Saving heating Monies and being able to get outside.
I have added the First Part of the Second Week of March.
Does that Coorilate with the Current Forecasts? Well, Not Exactly, but I'll take it.
04 March 2013
I am going to take a Break from Researching the Hairy 'Tree-Peekers' and put more time into this area of Research, or Maybe another.
02 March 2013
I have been Studying one of My OTHER Hobbies...The Tree-Peekers.
01 March 2013
"DIGGINITALL65" is going to be My 'YouTube' Name! Because I am going to be Digging it All! Digging every Signal and Digging Metal-Detecting!
"digginitall65"
"DigginItAll65"
Looks far better in all capital letters.
Found out that 'Rust Halo's' can Hide Coins. So Digging Sverything is the Key.
I will have a 'Pin-Pointer' really soon. It's Under $20.00, and I can use My PLASMA Monies to get it.
If a Stone Wall is Discovered, Check it with the Metal-Detector because people stash things in the Cracks and Crevices.
28 February 2013
It makes one wonder, when 'Spills' are found, What was the Reason? Was it a Hole in the Pants Pocket? Was it from Rolling around in the Grass? Was it to Hide the Money from Persuers? Was it due to an Animal Attack? Or was it Due to Murder? Or was it from a War? What was the reason for the 'Spill'? A 'Cache' is there because Someone wanted to keep their Monies from others. Easy Enough.
I really, REALLY want to get out Detecting and Finding Lost Treasures! During School Days I'll only have 6 hours to Search, but on the weekends I can go all day and even spend the night at certain sites.
Before I go to New-York again, I will have several Sites that I can use the Detector on. They will be Near where I will be staying.
27 February 2013
I am Curious as what March will bring in the way of Weather. I will have to check and see what the Projected Weather Reports are for March so i can plan ahead. This Includes doing all repairs to My Vehicle.
MARCH 2013: temperature 43° (5° above avg.); precipitation 3.5" (0.5" above avg.);
Mar 1-3: Showers, mild.
Mar 4-7: Snow, then sunny, cold.
Mar 8-13: Showers, mild.
Mar 14-17: Rain and snow, then flurries, cold.
Mar 18-23: Showers, then sunny, warm.
Mar 24-27: Rain, then sunny, warm.
Mar 28-31: T-storms, then sunny, cool.
Well, it did Not take too long to get that answer. I will have to keep Record Reports of the Weather on a Daily Basis. Let's see how close this Forecast will be.
26 February 2013
No Comment from any of My Teammates. I guess they are good with that then.
24 February 2013
Although My Best intentions is to Divide My Finds Equally between each of the Members of this group, I guess that I will be Selfish and Keep what I find.
19 February 2013
Nasty Weather Today.
I am Hoping that I do get the Chance and Oppertunity to Search the 1895 House Site before the Construction begins. I am Chomping at the Bit and Ready to Bust from the Gates! Maybe I will soon spend time researching at the Library.
18 February 2013
Not too much New. There comes a point where you have to go with what you have learned and await for something New to come to light, which may take a while.
It's been over 2 Months now, and Neither Member of My Group has Expressed anything on this Site. Does that mean I am Alone? And then does that mean I get to KEEP Everything that I find?
I cannot believe that it's 44 degrees and I am stuck inside on this Beutiful President's Day.
17 February 2013
Back Home and Prepared to perform more research.
15 February 2013
Getting ready to go to PLASMA this morning, then I have to drop off a Box of Books and a DVD, then the Rest of My Day is free to do as I will.
14 February 2013
Today is the Day! VALENTINES DAY!! And I am going out and Digging up whatever I find! Maybe it can be a Very Happy Valentines Day!
Seems that Half an Hour has already been lost. I wonder if I will even get Half an Hour?
Let's see what I can do with an Hour of Searching.
An Hour of Searching revealed the Foundation. I was getting a lot of Iron Signals possibly from the Old Nails, and they Outlined what a Foundation would have. Though Sometimes I think the Metal-Detector Lies to me. I have to Make sure I Calabrate the Machine so I get better determinations of actual targets.
I need to spend $40.00+ on New Shoes and a Pin-Pointer before going anywhere again.
13 February 2013
Doing a bit of Housework before a Inspection by the Owners of this Fine Complex, Then it's back to Research.
Rain Tomorrow. Won't Stop Me. It's supposed to be in the 40's, so I'll take it! Let's see if My Research will be a benefit and Pay Off.
This is where I'll be after 9:00am. I will park My Vehicle in the Lot to the West of the Baseball Field and Trek around the South Side of the Field to the Site with Maps of the Area and Perminant Markers and the rest of the tools needed. I will have a Maximum of 3 hours, but to be realistic, I will only have 2 hours. That does not include drive time and set-up time.
So, In Reality, I'll have from an Hour and a Half to Two Hours of Searching before I have to return home before My Son does.
12 February 2013
I am still reviewing Video's on 'YouTube' about Metal Detecting. I may find something new.
11 February 2013
I Believe that I am ready to go out and Find something Substantial. I have yet to go to the Library to do Further Research, but what I have should bring me to one conclusion or another.
08 February 2013
Is it going to be worth the Wait? What I mean is waiting until the Weather is Warm Enough, and Ground Soft Enough. The Site that I am going to First has a Road, well used to, and After I search the Location of the Foundation of where the House once stood, then the River Bank, and then the Trees, then I will check where the once Road was.
07 February 2013
Hobbyist "Code of Conduct". I will have to Add a Spot for that here.
I guess it's called the "Code of Ethics". I thought that was a Medical thing.
It's Official! (To Me) That at Parks the Finds are 6+ inches below the Surface due to the Park Authorities Dumping New Top Soil (3 to 6 inches) at the sites, and Forest/Woods the finds are 2 to 6 inches Deep. This Applies to Most of the United States.
Yeppers! Take and Old Tooth Brush for Cleaning Old Coins in the Field, that way it keep you from Rubbing and Damaging the Preciouse Metals.
06 February 2013
Internet running Slow today, as if Someone has hacked my Internet connection and is using my feed for their own use, or...it's the Government going through my files to see if I am someone of worth to them. I had to Reboot my internet to get things back to normal.
"Huch Bain" is a Name from the 1700's. He died/was buried in 1843.
Metal-Detecting Video's have all become Boring...Except for Deep Digger Dan, who remains Funny, Educational, and Interesting. He's even started to hold Contests for the Younger Generation, telling them to "Get Out!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X0P_SYoleI Here is a 'YouTube' Episode where a Kid and his Dad find over 345 Silver Dimes and a Quarter all together worth over $7,000.00 in Collector Coin Value!
Detektorist Complete Guide to Metal Detecting
Watch and Learn. Even though it's "Accross the Pond" as they say, the Information is still Important to Learn and Understand.
Remember there is a "Code Of Conduct" that the Hobbyist is to follow.
05 February 2013
Today...is PLASMA.
PLASMA Over, Research Continues. I will have to Eventually go to the Library and perform Research on the Site that I want to Detect to see if there were any other buildings there at any time.
GARGOYLE1984 is going to be my 'YouTube' Name for Metal-Detecting.
I have added a Current Silver Value for Coins, and thats for the Coins that are Not Rare and Worth More than their Silver Worth. My List for Coin Values has Expanded by a few new entries.
My Brother just found 'Deep Digger Dan' on 'You-Tube' and though that he would share that with me, but I had watched almost every one of his Video's already, So I Keyed him on 3 of My Favorites.
04 February 2013
Will be off to PLASMA soon. Have to Drink a Large Cup of Water First.
Wrong Day for PLASMA. I checked on/for Any Laws in Lansing, or in Michigan about Metal-Detecting and the Need for Permits to Operate in Any Specific areas, and there are None. To My Suprise, Michigan is a rather Relaxed State on the Subject, as well as the City of Lansing. There are only the Rules/Laws pertaing to Specific 'Parks', Historic Sites, and Archaeological Dig Sites.
I Figure that if I cannot make at the Bare Minimum of $450.00 per Month off of this Hobby, it will not be worth the effort. That's why I am going to do some Heavy Research in the Areas I plan to go and Explore.
03 February 2013
Back to the 1859 House. I have been trying to get a grasp on what to Expect as in the way of Coins there. When was the House Built? and when was it Torn Down?
02 February 2013
An 1870 Seated Liberty Half-Dollar in Good Condition is worth $20,000.00 and the story goes, He found it using a Base-Model Metal-Detector.
HARBOR FREIGHT has Pin-Pointers for $17.00. They may be Cheap, but I am going to Strengthen the Actual Pointer with PVC. I see so many of them get broken because they accidently hit something or people use them to Dig to get to the object. I don't intend to use it to Dig, but in the case I accidently swing it and hit something with it, I want it to Survive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzEZNWMXKDE
I like the "Split" Method of Searching below the 'Sod' Line. I can still use My Shovel to do this. It only creates a Small Incesion in the Grass and is Easily Repaired and Looks as though the Grass can Heal Quickly, as per the "Plug" Method that Seperates a Large Amount of Grass, that will take a while to Heal.
01 February 2013
Today is going to be a Busy day for Me. I have to go and Pay Bills after I do the PLASMA thing. So Any and All research will be on Hold until I get back this Afternoon/Evening.
31 January 2013
TOPIC OF THE DAY: To Double the Depth of your 'Garrett Pro-Pointer' you place a Coin near the 'ON' Button while the Device is on, Move it towards the Sensor until it Sounds Off, then Move it Away from the Sensor Tip until it Stops. See;

I was under the Impression that Melting down Silver Coins for their Silver Value was Illegal, Defacing American Currency. I guess that only applies to the Public and Not Places that take Gold and Silver for Trade for Cash. So there is a Cash value for Old Silver Coins by their Weight and Not Collection Value.
DIG EVERYTHING! Seems to be the War-Cry for Metal-Detecting.
"Cherry Picking for Silver": First find the Common Depth. Second make Sure that you have good Batteries. Third to Dig Penny/Dime Signals. Fourth is to Not Fuss over your Discrimination. Just watch this;
It is SNOWING like CRAZY Here! Making up for the Earlier Part of the Winter.
"HARBOR FREIGHT" Sells Pin-Pointers! Under $20.00!! Seriously Something to get! "CEN-TECH"! Only Detects up to 3/4" Deep. I wonder if I can Boost it like the Example Above?

There's Another Useful/Informational Person.
I am going to have to make an 'Electrolysis' Machine to Aide in Cleaning the Coins. There are Instruction Videos of this.
30 January 2013
I guess that the Weather is Against Me today. It's Raining Steadily and in the 40's. Would not be a suitable day to be out. I have caught some Bug/Virus and am Not feeling well anyways. I have learned that the Areas most likely to have Finds in them are the Foundations of Old Houses, and Driveways.
I am going to create a Package of where I am going when I get the Oppertunity.
29 January 2013
Oh-Kay, So I didn't get the Chance to go look over the Area in Question. I was at PLASMA for 3 hours before I got to Actually Donate, then I got the Slow Machine and it took over an hour before it finished.
56 degrees. Ugh!
Tomorrow is supposed to be 51 degrees. Maybe then?
I have to Print out the Maps and other Information when I get the Chance.

Metal Detecting: Research & Planning by UncleVinnys
Metal detecting sidewalks legal? by TactiFred
And Another One.
While My Son is Home I have to Build-Up My Future Research for the Evening, when he's in Bed for the Night.
Tomorrow, it's supposed to be 58 degrees with Showers. So I will be Wet and Muddy by the time I get Home.
So, My Son allowed me to watch the 'YouTube' Videos. As for the 1st, I am a step ahead in the way that I do My Researches. As for the 2nd Video, I will have to check local Laws, but I am sure that it's about the same as what was stated in the Video.
Tomorrow I will only have 4 Hours, But if I did the Research Correctly, I should be out of there long before the 4 hours are up.
Soooooo...These Guys find 6 Buffalo Nickles in a Old Milk Bottle wrapped up in a Cloth that looked like it was just placed there. The Site that they went to was claimed to be from the Mid 1800's and an Old Farm. But the White Rag was too White, the Glass Milk Bottle was too Clean, and the Coins were all about the same. So this to me IS a HOAX! Common Sense should Guide a Researcher.
Sifting through My Son's Coins I have Found 2 Wheat Pennies and 4 Nickles that pre-date 1965. I wonder how many that i have just looked over. I have to look the Dates up to find the Prices.
The Latest Weather is 56 degrees with Rain Tomorrow. And Wednesday is Near the 50's, So I may go out then as well.
27 January 2013
56 degrees on Tuesday! I am Definately going to go out and 'Metal-Detect'!
$22.90/gram? Is that correct? I will have to Convert it to see.
So the Equivalent is $22.90/0.283 Ounces (29.7g's = 1.0476oz's) It's $649.10/Ounce
All that means is Either Someone's being Ripped off, or the Current Rates are Wrong. But if this is the 'Reality' of it, I would have to find 28.35 grams per month, or 19 Gold rings at 1.5 grams each per Month. A Tall Order. I am Trying to get an Perspective on what needs to happen before I even really get started.
$649.10 per Ounce is a Far Cry from $1,665.31 per Ounce! It's Nearly a Third of the Current Valued Rates!
'GARRETT AT-Pro's' and 'GARRETT AT-Gold' are 2 of the better 'Metal-Detectors'. I find people like their 'Minelab E-Tracks' and those are Older Machines.
I am going to Modify the Shovel that I had bought so I can Penetrate the Ground Easier. If I get one of those 'Cheap' Pin-Pointers with the Skinny Shaft, I am going to Sleeve the Shaft to an Inch or more from the Tip to the Base of the Device so I Only have about an Inch Exposed. The Inch that does the Work. I have seen People Break the Shaft, and I don't want to be one of those 'People'.
I have to get everything set up for Tuesdays Hunt in the 1859 House Site.
crunch7077 Already uses the Name of 'Michigan Metal Detecting', so now I have to develope a New Name.
26 January 2013
I will be drilling a Series of Holes in the Bottom of the 5-gallon Bucket so the Trash Metal can be washed and the water and dirt Drained. I should have kept the old Cooler that I found at the Vagrant-Trash Site. It was only able to hold 2 gallons, but it would have been a start.
I need to check Current Gold and Silver Rates.
This is/are the current rates per Ounce:
So every Ounce brings $1,665.31, and 10 Ounces would Bring $16,653.10, and a Pound (16oz's) would bring $26,644.96! That's a Third of a Third-Class House! Three Years and the House would be paid in Full! Probably in 2 if the $26,000.00 was used as a Down Payment. This helps me Re-Evaluate my Values of what I need to find, and Confirms that I need a Scale.
So...Finding an Ounce of Gold per Day, for Five Days brings $8326.55. To make $400.00/month I would only need to find a Quarter Ounce of Gold. Not bad, but can it be done, Consistantly?
Let's See...the Typical Gold Ring is 14k and 4.0 grams, meaning that One would need 2 Rings to make an Quarter of an Ounce. (8.0 grams = 0.28 Ounces)
I was thinking wrong, because...I need to at least bring $400.00/month as I stated previously, and that would mean that I need 4 Rings at 14k and 16.0 grams per Month to make 0.56 Ounces, which in turn is Worth $932.57, which I will only get Half of for a Bring Home of $466.29/mo. I wish that I had this Knowledge when I was working in the Automotive Recovery Field.
The Small Gold Rings at 14k are 1.9 grams, and I would need 8 Rings if that were the case. So, That sets My Goal for Gold Rings, No Matter the Size, I am Aiming for 16.0 grams or 11 Rings. A Scale would be Important for this.
700 grams is how many ounces? 24.69! Which at 14k (Average) equals $23,984.62, and at half that, $11,992.31! And if you worked as a 2-man team, you would bring home $5,996.16! But I do not know the timeframe that these 2 guys collected that amount of Gold. It would be near the 15 month Mark in My Book, but I am sure that they had collected that in a Year. If that was the case, then I would have made $499.68/month.
I am getting 6oz's of 14k Gold. That cannot be Right. I never liked Math anyways. Should be 12oz's of 14k. FORMULA: 28.35 grams = 1 Ounce.
"Deeper is Better."
18k Peruvian Death Ring...Hmmmm, Sounds like something that I can use in a Story Line.
The 'E-Trac' seems to be the Machine to have. It is Considered Old now, but People still swear by it. It's only a 2 Year old Design.
10 karat Gold Ring of 29.7 grams = $680.00 in 'Scrap'.
25 January 2013
Snow, Snow, SNOW! 2 to 4 inches for Over Night! Now they are saying 47 degrees for Tuesday.
Anything Before 1965 is 'Silver' (Dimes, Nickles, Quarters, etc...). I need to get a 5-Gallon Bucket for the Trash Finds.
Just For Fun; I am going to collect all the Modern Pennies that I can, and whenever I find Something Significant that I remove and Keep, I am coing to place a Brand-New Penny in it's/their place.
All of the Good Coins are within the range on my 'Metal-Detector', and that's from 4 to 7 inches.
Searching for an Old Song, One from the 1800's. I am trying to find one that is Plus or Minus 50 Years of 1859. 1809 to 1909, for the Sound Track for My First 'YouTube' Video. That's only if I find something Substantial.

24 January 2013
After I get the 'Chores' Done, I have a Few Hours that I can do some Research, then My Son arrives home. He has a 'Half-Day' of School Today.
I was Curious about Privacy as I search. Looks like the Main Area is over 80 percent covered by Foilage. So I should be good there. 52 Degrees on Tuesday! Looks like I am still going out. Had Reservations because this Morning the Weather Channel stated that it was going to be in the 30's that day. How quickly things change.
This weekend I need to Print-Off the Search Area and Draw it (Vaugley) so I have a Referrence when I am out there. Maybe I should Print off the Section of the Map from 1859 and use that, with the Baseball Diamond and other Features Drawn in by Hand. Even though I do Not have a GPS Locator, I can add the Coordinates for the 4 Corners of the Foundation of where the House stood once.
Two things that I really need to Invest in are the GPS Locator and a Pin-Pointer. This HAS Become a Science, and a Mission. According to My Values, Whatever I find I will Split into 3 and give each member a share. Hopefully they will do the same for me.
PLASMA Day Tomorrow.
23 January 2013
From what I have seen in other's Digs, the City/County Governments never prepared the Surface of their parks before laying 3 to 4 inches of Top-Soil over them, and if that's the case, then any Treasures should still remain. There is a Clump of Trees to the North-East of the Foundation, and the Old-Road ran through that area, so it may be difficult digging, but whatever was there is still likely to be there.
To make ends meet, I would have to bring in 20 Wheat Pennies, or Equivelant to the Final Price of $20.00 per Day. That's accounting for a 5 day week. That means I have to Refine My Research and get good enough to recognize the right tones on the Metal-Detector. I only have an 8 inch depth range, and will have to Tweak the Device for Depth and Sensitivity. This is going to be Difficult and Frustrating at the Start.
Does any of My Co-Horts have anything to Add/Comment on? Didn't think so. Because they never read any of this.
Currently it is Snowing, and we are to get 2 to 3 inches. I hope that the 40 degree Weather Melts it all away before Monday. Then there's the Perma-Frost...
Seems that 'Mother-Nature' has changed her mind once again. I have to wait until Tuesday before it will be in the 40's. Just Tuesday is supposed to be in the Mid-40's. Better than No Days. Just Messaged my Sister to let her know of My progress.
22 January 2013
The next Site I am going to, I am going to Scour the Bank of the River, then where the Foundation is/was, then the Surrounding Area. There was a House there before 1859, and when you go back as far as possible on 'GoogleEarth' you can see the Foundation.
My Son's School was let out Very Early this Morning due to Boiler Issues. I have had No time to perform any research.
Monday and Tuesday of Next week look good. Near 40's or in the 40's. Usually the weathermen here say it's going to be colder than it actually is. Those are the 2 days that I am going to go search that site.
I am going to work the Bank, then the Foundation, then the 1st Search Area, then the Old Road, then the 2nd Search Area. I figure within 2 Days I should be able to Search all of the Areas Throughly. As I have seen on 'YouTube', They can keep going back over and over and still find things. I have to Research the Park.
No-one looks at this site right now, so I am Not afraid of Posting anything onto it. The Park is only known for the Baseball Field. It's in the Lansing City District, but is well known by those in East-Lansing. So, East-Lansing Police have No Authority there, Neither does any Archeologist, because it's not an Archeological Site, Nor is it an Historic Site. As for Native American...Nope.
Yes, A GPS Device is Needed, for Keeping me in Line of the Old Road. Who knows what was lost on that Old Road? How Many People who had to Walk it. Who took a Brake to Rest on it. It runs right through the Area where I found the Vagrant Camps. This may be My Best Site within the Lansing City Area.
It is Used as the "Red Cedar Cyclecross Course". It used to be an Old Golf Course until the last 3 Years, and Only has been used as a Cycling Course as of 2011. They are Only Renters I am Sure. I am going to do My Digging in the Late Fall to the Early Spring, that way I do Not Disrupt the Cyclists.
21 January 2013
Cannot perform any 'YouTube' Research. My Son is Listening to 'Spotify' on My Laptop.
I will be renewing My Plates Tomorrow after PLASMA and pulling out My Automotive Toolbox from Storage so as soon as the Weather Breaks, I can get the Bearings on the Front Changed. Seems that I may have to Replace a Part that I had changed during the Summer. I am hearing a Familiar 'Clunk' in My Steering. I cannot drive any long distances until it has been fixed. I may have to fix it in the Cold Weather. I have to make sure I get the Parks 'P' on the Tab so I can go to the State Parks without being Ticketed. I will have to get a County Park Permit as well for the Summer so I can go park in those places.
I will be Happy to get 24mpg from my Vehicle again. I will be changing out the Throttle-Body Fuel-Injector to Gain at least 2mpg more, maybe be able to press 30mpg if I do it correct. I have had Success with the method in the past, and gained 6mpg on the car I was driving, then the Oil-Sending Unit failed. Go Figure, Right? My Vehicle is only rated for 20mpg Highway by the way.

Yesterday I was watching 'YouTube' on 'Metal-Detecting' and came accross this Guy that Searches the Kalamazoo Region calling himself 'Giant056' and he too has to dig deeper in Parks rather than woodlands. That helps confirm my conclusions that Parks add 3 to 6 inches of Top-Soil to their Sites. But it's Loose Black Dirt, and Easily Scanned Through. In the Woodlands they typically dug 1 inch to 3 inches for coins going back to the late 1800's and Mid 1900's, but in the Parks it's after the 4 inch mark and as deep as the 10 inch mark before they find their target. And every site that I have went to confirms that they get better returns of targets after the ground is wet.
Old House Locations are a Favorite for People with 'Metal-Detectors'.
I need to find me a GPS Locator to use when I go to the Sites which are Covered by Trees and Foilage. I may have to see if James can Camp out at the 'Laskey' Site once in a while so I can get Pictures and Hopefully get that 'Squirrelled Away' Coins. If, and When I do a 'YouTube' Channel I will have to Dig up all of that Music from the 1800's and early 1900's as Background Music. A Several Years ago, I Inherited Both of My Grandparent's Music Collection. Some were too bad to Salvage. They had Smoke Damage and some were Warped too far to be saved. Others were made of the Early Red-Brown Material that Cracked and Chipped making them Unusable. But what I was able to Save, I Transfered the Music to Digital Media (CD) so I did Not have to Damage the Media any more. It was One-Third of Each of the Total Collections. I used Period Needles and Fine-Tuned my Record Player to get the Best Quality. I even Used a few of my own techniques to reduce the Hissing and Popping.
Someone told me set the Sensitivity of My 'Metal-Detector'. Mine is so Low-Grade that I cannot do that without Modifications to the Unit. So...Guess what I will be doing.
Seems that In the Detroit Area one has to Dig Deep! They go a Full Foot sometimes! They Range from 8 inches to 12 inches to get what they Detect. Unlike these People on 'YouTube', I will Not be Rubbing My Coins. They will go into the Shaker as soon as I can get them there so they can be Gently Cleaned. Those People are just Scratching the Hell out of the Coins, especially the Preciouse Metals. Like them though, I am going to Adopt the "I'll Get Back with you when I find something." Attitude.
I was watching this Video of a Guy searching a Stream with Bedrock as it's base and he was pulling out Hordes of Coins that I Never Heard about, and he Admitted to a Couple that he did not know the names of. Back to the 'YouTube' Intro; I want to use a Picture of a Field with a House (Log Cabin), and as it goes on, the Log Cabin shows Delapitation and the Trees start growing around it, and at the end, the Log Cabin is gone and Trees are there.
I have found a few other people that 'Metal-Detect' in Michigan. I am sure there are more than I will ever know, and that Number keeps Fluxuating pending on Newbies and those who get frustrated and quit. I am the Former of the Two for now.
19 January 2013
'Deep Digger Dan' on 'YouTube'. Check him out. He's a Foreign Man in a Foreign Country. To be more Precise...He's British and He's in Germany, Digging up Artifacts from WWII and finding things from WWI as well, and even Before that Timeframe. He Likes Buttons and Buckles.
I need Plastic Buckets and Containers to put things in. Of course the Largest would be for 'Junk', and the 2 smallest would be for Gold and Silver, and the Coins would need a Container, then I will need one Large one that can fit 2 smaller ones into it for the 'Shaker/Cleaner'. The 2 Smaller Containers should be capable of holding a piece/finds as large and my hand to be able to clean the larger pieces.
It has risen 5 degrees in the last Hour and a Half, and that makes it 39 degrees. I am Chomping at the Bit to get out Metal-Detecting. I have chosen a spot close.
To the Upper Right was some Buildings, but that leaves the Rest of the Area. I could not find any Records of any Building in the Area, but that does not mean there never were any there. And since it is close to a Campus that has been there from the Mid 1800's, there is a chance there could be lost treasures, which I am willing to claim.
Well...I spent 2 Hours out there only to Discover that it's 'Tent-City' for Vagrants. The next time I get out, I will check the Northern part, that's in the Park. I will add pictures of 2 of the finds.
At least in the area to the North there Deffinately had been a house.
Hand Saw and Common Nail
Common Barbed Wire-Tied into a Knot.
Bottle-Opener
Flat Barbed Wire.
The Best 2 Finds. Small Game Animal Trap and Bottle-Opener.
Here is the Next Site I will be Searching. No Vagrants or Trash.
100% House on the '1st Search' Site, and in the '2nd Search' Site was just Back-Yard. Here, I will really have to pay attention and to Return the Plugs with as little Disturbance as possible.
I guess that you cannot be 'Shy' about Searching. Seems that you just 'Do-It' until you encounter someone.
18 January 2013
Before March, I have to Ensure that the Vehicle is going to make the trip of 300 Miles and Back. I heard a 'Clunk' in the Steering today, and I can hear the Bearings Starting to Grind.
A Solution of Baking Soda/Powder and Water (Windshield Washer Fluid) used for Removing the Dirt on Metal Finds.
17 January 2013
Not much to Report today.
March. New York is on the Schedule. I have to perform some research to find some prospects that I can look at when I am there. Research begins...Now!
16 January 2013
I will be able to Purchase some New Equipment, Like a GPS Device and a 'Wand'. I have to assure that My Vehicle is Legal and Maintenance Addressed first.
I have to get a 3-Ring Binder to keep the Information that I collect in. This will be Something that I take to the Field with me.
Pinpointers range from ~$70.00 to ~$180.00. I have found some for Less, like ~$55.00, and I may end up purchasing one of those for Starters. Sure would have helped when I was out on the 12th.
Seems that Moist Ground makes the Detection of Metal Easier.
15 January 2013
I will be Visiting this Site from time to time because of the Season and the Availability of getting out to any sites.
14 January 2013
I have to go out this morning.
I Returned, but had to go retrieve some additional information. I am Making sure that I Print off every location of the buildings with Measurements so I can find them quickly for the next time I Adventure to the 'Laskey' Site.
When I told the Hunter that the Town he was refering to was Named 'Laskey' and that it was there from ~1881 to ~1940, he looked Shocked, Like how would I have known that. I did not however tell him of the Other Small Communities that were within the area.
Here are the Pictures of what I had found on the 12th, in the Order that I had Found them;
Crushed Oil Can
Broken Saw Blade
This is where I determined that it Could have been an Old Saw Mill. Makes Sense because on the 1999 GoogleEarth Map it shows Signs of Old Roads which would have been made for Logging Trucks and Equipment. The Oil Cans and Nails Support that Something was here, and there was a few things that I had found that would have been more suitable for Machinery than a Domocile.
Remenants of Old Can
Old Molar/Tooth
Old Glass Bowl
Square Nails
There was more, but it was mainly too bad to even look at. I buried all of these finds in the same Hole that I had found the tooth. That way it can easily be located if need to be.
13 January 2013
I did Not realize that I took over 4 hours of Video Yesterday. I am Burning it to DVD right now and afterwards I will Freeze Frame Pictures of the Items that I had found and then Screen-Shot them and then place them on here. The Video is 'Boring' to say the least, but it does Document the Area Searched.
The 'Ghostly-Bony Finger' was a Liar! LOL. I was not successful at Finding the 'Mason Jars' full of Old Coins.
I have noticed that in Recreational Parks the Coins are 6 to 10 inches below the surface, but in heavily wooded areas, the coins are 3 inches in depth. Theory as to why this is; The State Parks are Covered with 3 plus inches of Top Soil before they are used. In the Natural world, it would take a lot longer to accumilate 6 inches of Compost.
I now Understand why 'crunch7077' shows the Finds after he had found them. Because it involves a lot of routing around after making the hole to find the object before you can show it.
12 January 2013
It's Already in the 50's at 8a! And I won't be going out because...I really don't know why. There is No reason for me Not to go, Except One.
Well, I was Able to go and I was there for 5 hours and Only Discovered that the First site that I checked was an Old Saw Mill. I kept digging up parts of Saw Blades, Old Oil Cans, and Other Junk Items. I did find a Tooth (Molar) and a few Small Shards of Pottery, and a Piece of Broken Glass Bowl. I did a little walking and from the Site I went West to 'Laskey'. Later, before returning home, I went to the Other side of 'Laskey' and had thought that I had Located it from the West, but upon reviewing the area I have Discovered that in fact, No, I did Not find 'Laskey' from that Direction. What was on the Maps was not wholy correct, and I had to spend some time searching for the site. I met someone else at the site and he had asked if I knew of a Small Town a Mile West from where we were. I told him, Yes, and that it was 'Laskey'. He seemed Suprised. My Vehicle is Muddy and I am Hoping that we get a lot of Rain tonight so it can be rinsed off. Yes, it took me a lot longer than I want to Admit to find the Site. Seems someone switched up a couple of the Street Signs. I know better now.
So I was WAY Off on where I was Searching! The Next time I will be Bringing a Print-Out of the Area. I would have had better Success if I had one! I am Eager for the Next Warm Streak so I can once again go out there, this time better armed, and actually do some real exploring! I was off 158 feet from the first target area, and the Other 2 were even further away. I will add Pictures of My Finds after I get done Recording the Video to DVD.
Everything that I had Found was within the First 4 inches. Every thin piece of metal read as coins. The Soil weny as so; 2" Top Soil, 1 1/2" Dark Sand and then it was Light Colored Sand. I only dug until I had reached 8" Deep.
I will have to Search the Area a Second Time, because I did Not know what I was doing the First time around. I will have Maps with me when I go the Next time. I may even make it an Overnight. The Vehicle will have to Visit a Car Wash. I was 975 feet from where I should have entered the woods to Look for 'Laskey'. It probably would have been an easier path to take if I had went to the right one. I feel like an Idiot right now.
I guess I failed because I felt Nervous. For whatever reason. Unsure, and...well, Intimidated. I know that there is a 'Learning Curve' to anything New, And I need to get over it and become Successful.
A HUGE Storm is Rolling in Tonight! First Heavy Rain, then Rain/Snow, and Finally Snow! My Van will get some Cleaning.
11 January 2013
I am under the Impression that I should go to the 'Laskey' Site. The Weather is going to be warm, and the Ground Softened, and I had the Dream Again. This time, a Boney Finger was Pointing North Towards 'Laskey'. How Ominous is that?
I did get things out of the way today. PLASMA and Laundry. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 50's and perfect weather for getting out and finding Treasure.
"LASKEY", Where is 'Laskey'? I was asked, By Amy. If she followed this Web-Site/Blog, she would know.
10 January 2013
The 'Reality' is; I will have to get out more, and have My Vehicle Fixed before doing that. So I have to stay on the Current Path that I am on. First, to take the Christmas Decorations back to Storage and Pull out the Mechanical Tool Box so I can do the Work to the Van. I have to Visit the Salvage-Yard and pull the Front Wheel Bearings. I have to make sure that they remain Clean.Free of Dirt. Time for me to get around. PLASMA Day.
I guess that Monday's and Friday's are the PLASMA Days that I have to use. Seems that since I went to PLASMA last Friday that it Shifted My Days. I don't Understand How, but According to the Staff at the PLASMA Place, that's what happened.
I have to Figure out why I am Not receiving the $222.10/mo that I used to. That would go a long way in having the ability to get things done.
I am watching Video of these guys going through a Heavily Wooded area, and they are finding coins in less that 3 inches of soil. I would have thought that they would have been in the 12 inch range, taking into consideration of the Foilage accumilation.
Yesterday, I walked 2.4 Miles.
For My Video Camera, I will be making a Voltage Reucer to go from 6 Volts to 3.6 Volts. I did some Research and came up with this;
And this will allow me to Video-Record for Extended periods of time. It is Undetermined how long I will be able to Record, but I will be Testing it out soon. I just need One of Each of these @ ? watts; Brown, Green, Orange, Gold (1,500 Ohm) and, Brown, Black, Orange, Gold (1,000 Ohm). I should have Both of the Resistors out in Storage, with My Soldering Tools, Wires, etc...
09 January 2013
Today, Despite of Rain, I am Still going out to the Site. Black-Ice was Reported, and Several Accidents have Already Occured.
My Son is off to School and I am getting ready for My 'Adventure' Today.
Had a Talk with Amy Last Evening about the 'Treasure' and how to Divide it up. Her View is that if you are on-sight, you get a part of the 'Finds'.
I went to 2 Sites today. Nothing to Report. The First was planned, and all I found was a Old Truck Frame and Metal Triangle Parts. The 'Metal-Detector' worked well, even picking up Objects Outside the Coil area. I was even able to read Objects past the 8 inch depth. Since I only had a Hand Spade, and not my Shovel, I could not dig that deep. I have to Devise a way to be able to record longer periods of time with my Video Camera. This 45 minute stuff does not work. There was Evidence that Youths travelled through the First Site. As for the Second Site, it had "No Trespassing" Signs placed around the Border, so I left it alone. Right now, the Ground is still easily dug through. I had No problems. At the First Site this Morning, I saw Many of Deer. Remember, I was Still well within the City Limits.
If I am to Profit and be Successful at this "Hobby", I need to get out more often.
I have to Price Front Wheel Bearings for My Vehicle before taking Long Trips.
I guess that I will have to go to the Automotive Scrap Yard and Pull them. It will be $50.00 per Side for New Iners and Outers. I could get them for $20.00 for Both Sides there.
I have yet to Understand what James thoughts are on the 'Finds vs Sharing' Issue. I will be Heading to the Scrap Yard soon. I need to get the Van Safe for All Concearned.
1835 the Highway System was Established in Michigan. 1956 was the State/Federal Highways.
08 January 2013
Doing some Shopping this Morning. I cannot wait to see if my research will pay off. James has an Oppertunity to get some finds. Either 'Clad' Change or Something of Value like 'Wheat' Pennies, 'Indian Head' Pennies and Silver 'Roosevelt' Dimes, and/or 'Mercury' Dimes. I cannot wait to go to James Area and Search a Couple Sites. I am still unsure about how the Findings should be Divied up. Should any and All finds be Split Evenly between all of the Members? Or should it be What you Find you Keep or Split between whatever team members that are present? I want the Team to Succeed. The quicker the Team Succeeds, the Quicker Each Member gets Better Equipment and the More Finds can be gathered, and then the better Tools can be bought and this can
Because you Never Know who will find the 'Squirreled' away Jar or Can. I Believe that the 'Team' should all move forward, even if it's using the Monies to Purchase the Team Members new Tools. As long as the 'Team' Moves Forward so the 'Team' can get better Finds, and the 'Team' Benefits. I would Gladly Purchase My 'Team Members' New Tools/Equipment if I found the/a 'Squirreled' Away Container that had Multiple Examples of Each Coin. Some 'Guidelines' NEED to be Set. I guess that I will have to become a little aggressive with My 'Team-Members' to get the Answers.
One of My Goals before going any Long Distances is to get the Bearings Changed on the Front of My Vehicle.
I am going to want to look at this one Site between the Streets of South-Bound MLK and Max Ave., Just North of William Street and South of West Malcom X Street. It's a
Looking at these 2 Lots that have had houses tore down that were there from around 1859, and they are right across the 'Michigan History Museum'. Anything dug up there would possibly be taken as a 'Historic' Item, even though it may have been dropped in the year of 1913. 1913 would be the 100 year mark. How many Inches down would that be? The Ground has been tore up there so much that it would be a difficult thing to Claim.
Well, I REALLY WANT To Go Use My 'Metal-Detector'. Tomorrow I have an Open Schedule and I have the Drive to check a few Sites. I may use the Hidden Park, or the other places near there to perform My First Search.
I have the 'Green-Light' to go out Tomorrow and Search with the 'Metal-Detector' from Amy. I will be Here;
I can determine how much ground can be covered. It's the Area Marked "Location of Old Building and Street Lamps". I will be Parking My Vehicle :
That's 'Potter Park' to the Upper Left of the Picture. I am sure there were a lot of Houses between the Rail-Road Tracks there. I will be taking the Video-Camera and the Photograph Camera along to Document anything. For Now, I will have to place my Findings in My Pockets until I can get a Pouch for that purpose. If the "Shaker" Works, I may sell them, and I want to Make Pouches from Tent Material and so they are Reversable so they can be washed out with a Hose. Do I expect Much? No. The place is Littered with Metal. I will get so much Metal Scrap that I will have to Pile it up in Small mounds until I can get back to collect it. I will take it to the Scrap-Yard and Sell it by Weight. At least I will get something out of My Efforts.
I need My Back-Pack, Headphones, Video-Camera, Regular Camera, Have to make sure that My Cell-Phone is Fully Charged, Wear My Old Shoes, Bring My Sweater, Some Snacks and Drinks,
If I am Successful with this Site, where I do not think that I will find anything but Srap Metal, I will Know that my Research will pay off at any other Site. This will be the Foundation to Starting this Hobby. It will be a Further Success if I take in $72.00 for the 6 hours that I will be there. That will be the thing that will Drive me then. That will tell me that if I put a lot of effort into this Hobby, I will be able to Provide for My Family.
If it were not for Privacy I would go to this Site Just North of Lansing where there was a House in 1859 where All of the Houses were Leveled for New Construction, but the area was left as it was. It's a Small Site and could be gone over Very Quickly, and I could park in several places where I could be left alone. I did Buy a Flat Nosed Shovel and a Spade that has marks every inch on it. They costs nearly $30.00, but I should be ablr to Recover that after a few finds. 6,000 'Wheat' Pennies should do it.
I am going to Stay with the Current Plan to Check out the Area Pictured because there is More Strangeness there than I knew of before.
Getting My Son on the Bus Tomorrow, then I am GONE!
If a 'Squirreled' Away Container is found, All of the Contents should be Documented, the Minimum Cost Tallied, and that Equally Split between the Members. If the person who finds the 'Items' gets a little more from the find, then that's good for them. I am going to do it in this manner.
07 January 2013
I will watch a few 'YouTube' Video before going to the
Did the PLASMA thing and am now performing more Research. I am tired of watching Videos for the time. I am SO READY to Start Searching. Friday is supposed to be in the High 40's. The 'Weather Channel' states 47 degrees with a 20 Percent Chance of Percipitation. Well...Time for Research.
I Believe that the Site here in South Lansing will be Difficult because of all the Metal associated with an
I am Speculating that the House/Business was Bought out by the Rail-Road. That's a Safe Assumption knowing that the Rail-Road has a History of Forcing people off of their Lands back in the Early Years of Locomotive Transportation/Shipping. It may have been a Very Prosperouse Business and Served the Community well. I am currently looking for Maps Prior to the Rail=Roads, or at the timeframe when the Rail-Road first came through.
It was After 1859 when the Railroad came through. But when? And where were the First Tracks Ran? I am Still Looking.
??1895??
In a 'Birds-Eye View' Map from 1866 there was a Rail-Line running through Lansing. It was located on the East-Side of the Grand-River.
Well...What do you know. There was a Rail Line that went through Gratiot County, and that could explain what looks to be a Train (
I have found 19 places in Lansing Township that a House used to Stand and is Now an Empty Lot. A couple are on Property of a Business, A Few that are Under Concrete Parking-Lot right now I did not Mark for future searches. There are at Least 2 that are right next to a Highway Overpass. A Couple are in Golf Fields. A Couple are on this Strange Property.
I have to Evaluate each, from the less likely to be Harassed to the Ones that will need Permission from the Business or Property Owner. I want to go to the ones that I know I won't need Permission so I can Practice. I have to get in Mind where the Old Timers would have 'Squirreled' away their savings.
West-Bound Michigan Ave and N.Howard Street, right to the West of South-Bound US-127 is a Spot I have Marked 'House 010713-014' from the 1859 Map, and there was a House there before the Highway was put in. I can Park in a Stores Parking-Lot. Everything may be Burried too Deep. I have to Understand where the 'Back-Yard' would be and determine if I can even get to the area.
Michigan Ave. would have been the Main Street where the front of the House Faced. So the Front Door faced South, Meaning that the Back Yard was North of it. So, There is a Chance that I can find something. Now, How far back would he have Burried his Money? That is something that I will have to Explore.
06 January 2013
Back at the Research again. Watching 'YouTube' and 'crunch7077'.
Coin amounts that I have seen Collected Average in the 30's, and 85% of them are 'Clad' Change, then it's the 'Wheat' Pennies, then the 'Mercury' Dimes, Followed by the 'Roosevelt' Dimes.
I have Noticed that while Hand Excavating the area for the 'Find', they tend to do Damage to the Coin/Object, Further Reducing it's Value.
In area of Heavy Leaf Fall Annually the Coins Range in the 6 inch depth, and in the Fields they range in the 4 inch depth range.
I have found a
1940's to 1960's 'Wheat' Pennies and Generally Coins from that timeline are found within the 4 inch deep range. 6 inches are the coins from around 1880's to the 1920's.
We will HAVE TO KEEP all the Metals we find. We have to Keep a Large Bin in the Vehicle for 'Scrap' Metal, One for 'Silver' Finds, and One for 'Gold' Finds, as well as Coins from Certain Era's, and a '
This Guy and his Friend Started 'Picking and Choosing' what they want to dig. Why? They were finding a Hell of a Lot of Silver! I am Never going to Pick and Choose. Any Target that I detect, I will Dig Up.
I have Watched Many of 'crunch7077' Posted Videos, to the point where it feels as if I have been doing this hobby for a long while. I am seeing an Average of 5 'Wheat' Pennies, 1 'Mercury' Dime, 2 'Roosevelt' Dimes, and a Fifty-Percent Chance of a Half Dollar. With that, a Minimum of ~$13.00 for a Days Work.
At First, I would need to Recoop the Amount of Fuel I Expend going and returning from sites, then the Amount for the Time Invested, and if there are 2 of us at the site, it will have to be double hourly Amount, and then there is the
At first, this guy did Not use Headphones, and then he used them Spuratically, and Now he's always wearing them.
Maybe Plotting out the Sites as they are Explored may Reveal Old Trails/Paths which would give a clue where more Treasures could be found.
The Video that I just watched made me aware of something. They were Forming a Line about 12 feet from a pond and along the pond, and that indicates to me a path. They were all over the property looking and would come accross something once in a while, but they ended up along the pond and they found more things, so that indicates to me that there was once a path there and people lost money along that path. A little Scientific Scruitiny can go a long ways in the area of turning a profit in 'Metal-Detecting'.
So...with Collecting the 'Gold' (Jewelry), 'Silver' (Jewelry), 'Rare Coins', 'Old Coins', and the 'Scap' (To go to the Scrap-Yard), through the Year should bring in enough Income, but I still say that $106.00 needs to be made Daily (5 Days) to make any kind of Living. I would like to find an old Mason Jar filled (even half-way) with Coins and other things like Jewelry and Old Paper Money.
My 'Site-001' was Established around 1860, so the Coins that will be found there will/should reflect that. That does not mean that the Deepest coins are from that time. The Deepest Coins can be from an Earlier Minting Period, and up to that timeframe. The Depth is Not a Certain thing because there has not been any research to determine that.
Sometimes they get lucky and pull several coins from a single dig. I don't want to be 'Lucky', I want to Understand where the Old Coins are so I can get as many as I can in the least amount of time as possible.
Sometimes they have Finds 10 inches down, and they have the better 'Metal-Detectors' that will allow them to go to 12 inches deep. I am set for 8 inches in depth currently.
I am Hoping that My Research will be Fruitfull so I can get My Vehicle Fixed and ready for More Adventures. I NEED To get out there Regardless of the Weather. As long as the Ground is Not Frozen, I should be able to Search.
05 January 2012
I Spent Yesterday and this Morning Searching an Area within Lansing where there are Strange Remenants of a Building by a Local Zoo. Finding Information on what was there has proven unsuccessfull and Irritating. I was under the Impression that Amy and I were going to Investigate it Today, but last Night she had changed her Mind. So it's time Wasted as well. Time to watch more 'YouTube' on 'Metal-Detecting'.
When I go out to a Site I am going to Search it to Death! I will Scour the Area as long as I possibly can. I will have to Guage how much area I can cover per hour.
'Wheat' Pennies and 'Mercury' Dimes. Expect to find them the Majority of the time. Kind of Makes Sense though. Children of that Era would have them for Buying Sweets and would Loose them Playing around.
Today; I robbed a couple 9V
'Tot-Lot'(s) is a Term for a Playground. LOL
I guess if you need a quick boost of loose change, the 'Tot-Lot' is the place to go. $2.00 to $4.00 of loose 'Clad' can be pulled from them.
I have to Create a Chart for Logging in the Depths and information of my relavent finds.
I am watching the same guy that I watched yesterday and at 4 inches deep he is finding coins from the late 1800's and early 1900's, and he is exploring Property with a house on it that was built in the Mid 1800's.
I have added a '2013 Average Prices' Section with what the Current prices are for each Denomination per Specific Year and Minting Stamps. This is from what I could find. It shouls be close.
I am going to Create a Coin Cleaner Device. Basically a "Shaker" Bowl that has 2 Compartments. The First is where you place the Coin(s) to rid it if Dirt and Other Soil, and the Second is to Clean the Coin from Corrosion and bring back the shine. How? Well, I will use 3 Plastic Bins. The Large One will hold the 2 Smaller Ones Side-by-Side. What will Create the Shaking/Vibration will be a Electric Window Washer Pump which will also be uses to keep the First Stage
People say that they had a 'Good Day' when they only bring in $5.00 to $20.00 for 4 and a Half Hours of Searching. NOT ME! I would have to bring in $52.00 and then the Amount for Fuel (Which could be from $20.00 to $60.00), So I would have to Bring in a Cache' of $112.00 for a little more than a Half-Days Work.
"Keep On Diggin'" LOL. I just heard that on 'YouTube'.
Finding Jewelry at 3 inches to 6 inches depth is usually a good thing. Meaning that it will be more likely the real deal.
'Wheat' Pennies and 'Mercury" Dimes. The Major Finds at Parks. The Benefit is that for some reason a ring of gold or Silver is Found.
04 January 2013
Alkeline 9V
So, I did Not Purchase any 9V Batteries yet. I will have to First wait until All the Bills are Paid, then that there is Enough Food in the House, and Other Needs Addressed First...Then, and Only Then can I Invest in Batteries for the 'Metal-Detector'. I will Also have to Purchase a Shovel and
Look in the 'Standard Practice' Section under the 'Paperwork' page for the 'Soil Plug' Drawing and the Example that I have done to Illustrate the Procedure. I will be Clairifying everything there.
That is/has been
Maybe a 'LOGO' is Needed? What can be Drawn to Represent the Group?
Alright...This Guy found a 'V-Nickle' (1905) at 7" Deep. I am going to review all of his Video's to get a Feel for where he's Searching and Average Depths. When was a 'V-Nickle' Minted?
1883 to 1913! and Sells for around 3 Million Dollars!
a 'Mercury Dime' (1923) is only woth 10 Times it's Value, or a Dollar.
Again, at 7 inches he is finding Silver Coins. Another 'Mercury Dime' from the Early 1930's.
And at around 8 inches he found a 1942 'Mercury Dime'.
This Guy has a Section Dedicated to 1800's Silver. I can now Guage Depths. Here is his Site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAF3-fEOxas and he Dug up a 'Barber's Quarter' (1892). He had Stated that he was in a 'Park'. Minted from 1892 to 1916. (Designed by a Man with the last name of Barber). Again at ~7 inches he pulls up a 'Mercury Dime' (1941), He stated that he Listens to the "High Squeeks" between the "TRASH". He spent Only an Hour and a Half and came up with; 1892 'Barber' Quarter (Min-$4.98 to $11.16.), 1941 'Mercury Dime' (Min-$2.50 to $3.00), 7 'Wheat' Pennies (Min-$0.60 to $5.00), 7 'Clad' Change (Modern Coinage), and some Trash. As for the Amount for his Finds, that would be as low as $11.68, but could be as much as in the Thousands depending on Mint-Marks and Conditions. $11.68 for an Hours worth of work is Fine, But I would want to spend 8 hours.
In an area with Trees Sparsley around (A Beach), he went 4 inches on one dig for a 1942 'Mercury Dime'. Earlier, He found a 'King George' as well. He found a 1952 'Wheat Penny' at 4 inches deep. He's Searching with Someone else. He found Another 'Mercury Dime' from 1941. Another 1951 'Wheat Penny' at 3 inches deep. There is a Pattern Forming Here. 4 and a Half inches for Another 'Mercury Dime' of the Year 1945. 5 inches down for Another 'Wheat Penny' from 19?? (too dirty to make out). Again at 5 inches he Locates a 1940 'Roosevelt' Dime. He was out for 5 Hours and Collected 54 Coins. (10 'Wheat' Pennies, 3 'Mercury' Dimes, 1 'Roosevelt' Dime, and the Rest 'Clad' Change.) So for Value, he Brought a Minimum of $17.10 for 5 Hours. He returned to the Search After Dusk and Found another 'Mercury' Dime of the year 1944 for another $2.50 min to his overall tally. At 5.5 inches down his friend finds a (I have Noticed that ther 'Trap-Door' the Holes so the 'Plug' falls back exactly where it came from) 194? Nickle and a 'Standing Liberty' Quarter from 19?? (1916 to 1930). At 5.5 inches his friend finds a 1945 (Under the 'Top' Soil the rest seems to be Sandy) 'Wheat' Penny.
I am going to use this Information and put it to one of the 'Soil Plug' Striation Section Sketches.
This guy in Near the 'Huron' River. Time to find that on 'GoogleEarth'.
he is Very Far away from the Site I am going to be in. I feel a little relieved, but that does not gurantee that no-one has ever went there and did what I am going to do.
Though this Guy is Far from where I am, His Information is Still Relavant to me as Scientific Evidence. The Coins seem to Range from 3" Under the Top Soil to 7" Below the Top Soil.
'Mercury' Dimes are a Fairly Typical Find. These Guys that I am watching go back to areas and still pull Coins out. Not Many, but a Few Dollars Worth.
If one finds a Nickle with a "P" on the Top Back, it's a 1940's 'Silver War' Nickle. The one that I have seen was from 1943.
This Hobby started After WWII when the Soldiers would Buy Used Metal-Detectors from the Military. I am at least 65 Years Behind in the Search.
I wonder if I could get Permission to Search in the 'fenner' Nature Park area? I will have to keep that in mind. It is a state Park.
I see that he waves the Dirt over the Top Side to see if the 'Metal' is in his hand or not.
I will add the 'Research' that I am doing right now, Tomorrow. I will Keep adding Information. This 'crunch7077' has found things in as little as 2 inches deep.
03 January 2013
No Cooperation from the 'Team Members'. Do I
Research is at a Dead-End Currently. I have Searched for Any and All Maps in the Counties where we are going to be Searching in. I will Start Searching Once again after I am more Attentative.
My Site is Almost Completely Covered by a Bouguer Magnetic Field. The Area where James is going to be working within the same Conditions for the most part, though his area is 75% covered.
In My Search Area I have Discovered that it is in the 'Glenwood Formation' and the 'Saint Peter
I cannot find any Indication of a Native American War against any Europeans in Michigan, nor can I find any Activities in Concearn of the Civil Wars in Michigan. I cannot even find any Forts/Bases within the Interrior of Michigan in the 1800's to early 1900's.
If the Site I am going to be working proves fruitful with Meteorites as I think it will due to all of those 'Tree-Rings', I will just Have James come down and we can work together to dig up a few dozen, then sell those as well. I will then Invest in a Couple more 'Metal-Detectors' and Get others into the Game so the Site can be cleared quickly and everyone profit from it.
I am at my ends in the Research Arena. I have Discovered a lot in the Research, and Now...I hope that I can make it pay off, for Everyone.
02 January 2013
I am Certain that Every Area I have Researched is in the Clear to be Explored. Unless there is a "No Tresspassing" Sign, and the Land is Actually owned by a person that can be proven, and is Not a 'Land-Grab'. I cannot see if that is the case for any of the sights. Again...I have Until Spring to determine as much as I can before going to any of the Sites.
I was supposed to get My 'Metal-Detector' Delivered to My Parent's House by the 28th of December, 2012. It should be there, but I never received a call from them to tell me, so I will be going there today while I am running around.
Well, No 'Metal-Detector' as of yet. My Parents have No Idea that one was supposed to be dropped off there. I am going to look for the one Map that had ALL of the Locations where Archaeological Digs were in Michigan, that way I could Avoid those areas. Most Historic Places are within Cities, Towns, or Villages, so I am pretty safe there, though I will still look for any out in the Country.
The Only things I could find were near the Great Lakes or in Cities of Michigan. Nothing out in the Country Yet.
Discovered that My Site is in the Leavitt Archeological Section. Not that it Changes anything.
I say that Since the 'Professionals' in the Archaeoligical Field are Keeping any and all Secrets about My State of Michigan with their Studies and if I do run accross anything of Significance, I will treat thwem with the same Courtesy as they do the Unprofessionals that Stumble Accross Items. All I wanted to find out was where the Sites are to Keep Respectfull Clear of them and to Learn the Depths to Discearn the Levels versus Eras so I have a Basis to go by. I will Perform My Own Studies, But I will Share with Others of what I Discover, but those 'Others' will be Linked to this Site.
I got a Call Tonight that My 'Metal-Detector' was in. There are No 'Burial Mounds' within the Site I am going to.
There is a Possibility of 3 or more 'Burial Mounds' within the Area/Sites where James will be Searching. I will have to find a Larger Picture of the Sites. But James should look at a few Images of 'Burial Mounds' first so he has some knowledge of what to look for.
01 January 2013
I have found 3 more Maps to Overlay on the 'GoogleEarth'. None are for Plats, meaning they do not show houses or buildings. They will come in handy for understanding the areas I am going to be searching. I will have to go through and Re-Evaluate my Understanding of the Areas.
Here is what I have currently for the "Laskey" area:
-1819-Treaty of 'Saginaw' was Signed in September 24th 1819, Artical '7 Stat. 203.'
-1999-Oil and Gas Map shows Deposits on the West side of the
-MCRS-Midcontent Rift System Map shows a Rift to the North and South of the Site running from South-East to North-West.
-550ft to 700ft Above Sea-Level
- -115nt to 60nt Levels.
-The South-East Corner was part of the "Marion Springs" Grounds of 1941.
-A Watershed was Mapped through the area.
-Swelling Levels are at a Medium Status.
-The 'Ecoregion' Chart shows as the same as the Lower-East side of the State.
-The 'Bedrock' Chart shows it in the 'Red Beds' to the North-East and the 'Saginaw Formation' to the South-West.
-Located in the 'Saginaw Field' Formation.
-Settled around Late 1850 to Early 1860.
-Community lasted to some time in the 1960's.
-No Native American Sites/Claims.
The area has a 'Spotted Past'. The Exact Timeline of the Community has to be Explored via Public Offices.
Now the Work-Up for James Area of Search;
-It was Settled After 1860.
-It's in the 'Red-Bed' Geological Granite.
-Swelling Levels are at a Medium Status.
-35nt Levels.
-750 Feet Above Sea Level.
-Sparse Oil and Gas Deposits.
-MCRS-Midcontent Rift System Map shows a Rift to the East and the South of the Area.
-1836-Treaty of 'Washington' was Signed in March 28th 1836, Artical '7 Stat-491.'
-No Native American Sites/Claims.
-Not in any National Parks.
And that's how that Area stacks up Regarding the Details. Again, The Exact Timelines for the Area has to be explored via Public Offices.
I have 4 Months to Ensure that Everyone in this group will be as safe from Prosecution and be self-assured that they are Not breaking any laws.

HAPPY NEW-YEARS!
30 December 2012
Juggling the Holidays and My Son who is sick, plus dealing with his Mother and her Ignorrance.
James and Amy need to Privide Information regarding "About Us" in the "Forum" Section so I can place it in the "About Us" Section. They can see my example.
James and Amy need to Provide Suggestions for this Site as well, and they too can be placed in the "Forum" Section.

28 December 2012
I have caught whatever My Son had and it's not good. Hopefully I can Kick it in the Butt Tonight with NyQuil and Several Layers of Blankets.
27 December 2012
Still dealing with a Sick Child. At least he is Upbeat about it. I will have to give him a Warm Shower to help clear his nose.
26 December 2012
Busy Day. Taking care of a Sick Child sure takes a lot of time and energy.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hope that everyone got what they wanted. I am still awaiting one of mine, but am sure that it will be worth the wait.
23 December 2012
I will Advise everyone to Add a Headphone Jack to their Metal-Detector(s). I will gladly do it for My Team Members if so Requested.
22 December 2012
Since I will be having time, I will Convert the Metal-Detector that I get from a Speaker Operated one to one that can use Headphones so the Batteries Last Longer. This too will help me hear the faint sounds when I pass over anything. Another thing that gets suggested a lot is that you should even check if you get a Weak Signal because the 'Target' may be Small or Deep in the Ground. Some of the Best Finds have been ones that others let go due to those factors. Dig up Everything, then Replace the Material. Respect the Ground, and other's Enjoyment.
I have to once again visit the Storage Center to get my Electrical 'Fix-It' Kit so I can fit the Jack and Solder it in Place. This will save Batteries and help me find more things.

So we got a Couple Inches of the
So the World did Not End, I still have to wait for the Metal-Detector. My Sis called and said it would be around the 15th of January before it arrives at My Parents. I am still sure that when it arrives that I will have the time to Familarize myself with it. I have a few things that I want to try to see where the accuracy lies with the Device.
Something that keeps getting Driven Home is the Ability to Use Headphones rather than using the Speaker. The Metal-Detector I am getting does Not have the Headphone Capability, but that does Not mean that I cannot Install a Jack. I Already have what I need to do so, and in Both Sizes for Different Headphones. So the Question is, Should I go with the Large Headphones? Or the Small Ones? The Reason for using the Headphone is to Extend Battery Life. The Factory Speaker uses more Energy than Headphones.
James, Amy. Go to the "Forum" Section.
I would like a Paragraph or Two from Each of you, Describing Yourself for the "About Us" Section.
It's been Cold and Windy as Hell all Day.
20 December 2012
We both are just waiting on our 'Metal-Detectors' and there is a report of Snow Tomorrow. I was hoping that the Ground would stay Soft for Digging.
We have a Third Member today. We Welcome Amy to the Team.
If it Continues to Rain and get Colder it will Snow Tonight. This will put a damper on my Hopes of getting out to the site while the Ground is still soft.
Everything will be split evenly, but the question becomes; Is the Monetary Value Splite Evenly for those who are working in the same area together? Or does that apply accross the board? Meaning, If Amy and I find items here, do we split it in a 3-way to include James? And would he do that if he finds Artifacts?
I think for now, and to get things going for each team member, whatever I find will be split equally between the Three of us, Regardless if eveyone was together or not. This will ensure that we can get a good start together.
I am NOT trying to give too much away as for the Locations of the Searches. Though I can Find more with the Process that I have created, I want to retain as much for this group as possible so we can Fund our Site and Ourselves.
Still Raining and Very Cold.
19 December 2012
WELCOME! This Site/Blog is Created for the 'Hobby' of 'Metal-Detecting' in the State of Michigan. I am Garry and My Teammate is James. We both are to get Metal-Detectors this Year and I am not, NOT going to let the Device Collect Dust. So, I have been Performing Research on as many Aspects of the 'Hobby'. I have noticed that 'Most' people are content with searching Beaches or 'State Parks', and few actually Explore, and even Fewer Research Areas before going. I am of the Third Varriaty. I Prefer to Know as much about an Area/Site as I can before even going out. I have went as far as looking into the 'Legal Responsibilities' One has with the Use of the 'Metal-Detector' and the Use of the Land.
I have set up My Brother-in-Law with a Site near him, and when I get My 'Metal-Detector' I will select a Site for Myself. We will see who get's the First Find.
